Thank you for your reply, and you haven't been "abrupt" at all. Your question is 100% on the mark. I hope my reply will make a bit of sense, but no guarantees
I started my web-life in late summer 1994 in a village in southern France called Laverune. I guess I still had Windows 3.1 on my computer. I don't remember why, but I didn't particularly like Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, and I started to use the venerable Netscape Navigator. Over time, I moved on to the Mozilla Suite, and - I guess it was around 2002 - I moved on to Phoenix and Thunderbird. Phoenix became Firefox.
Though I really know nothing (I mean zip) about programming, I became fascinated with "my browser", and after awhile, found the nerve to become a Mozilla beta tester. I guess there was Deer Park somewhere along the line and then Bon Echo, all on the way to to "Firefox". I always had nightly and beta (they used to be called "trunk" and "branch", respectively) on my machines, and when ESR landed (I guess as the result of Australis), it was added.
Anyway, it went on and on. When Australis came, I thought I was was gonna die, but thanks to Aris, (Classic Theme Restorer) I've been able to squeeze a couple more years out of Fx ESR. It'll be gone for good when the changes in Fx 57 hit it.
What's the point? Simply, I like to have "my browser my way". Mozilla has killed this.
I came to PM/Basilisk, hmmm, I guess it's 4-5 months now. Though I'm not so crazy about Moonchild's and New Tobin Paradigm's "It's my football, so we'll play by my rules" attitude, which seems to bubble up every now and then, the other devs and they have come up with something that's been a "lifesaver" for me, and I'm
very grateful. I'm kind of an ornery old guy (71 years), and I'm happy (or as happy as I can ever be) to use their football and play by their rules, as long as end result serves my needs. For now, I'm a happy camper.
I hope this ramble has provided a bit of insight into my reasoning. I'm inquisitive when it comes to browsers, and I'm sort of interested in knowing "why things happen", within the borders of my very limited ability to comprehend the technology behind the scenes.
I've read what there is to read in regard to the differences between PM and Basilisk, and I sort of have an idea of what's going on - sort of.
When something comes up like what I've asked about, I ask.
I certainly don't want to be seen as a troll. My problem is that my "technical background" doesn't allow me to contribute much of substance here.
In any case, I hope this has sort of answered your question.
I'm sorry it took so long. Please excuse me.
I wish anyone who's taken the time to struggle through this posting a nice weekend. Hmmm, actually, I wish everyone, wherever they are, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, and gender proclivity a nice weekend.
And by the way, when I want to watch the Spiegel movies, I use Basilisk.
