No H.264 codec anymore?

Unread post by dark_moon » 2018-01-21, 12:24

On Youtube i got problems with few videos. They say:
Your browser does not currently regcognize any of the video formats available.

And the testsite https://www.youtube.com/html5 show my i dont have H.264 any longer.

With firefox portable the codec is available, even if i disable the internal plugins.

Dunno -- works just fine here.

Clicking on the link you provided shows I do have H.264 and also MSE & H.264 for 64 bit linux Pale Moon (27.7.1).

I know you do a lot of modifications in Pale Moon whereas I do not. Could you have inadvertently done something which caused an effect where you don't have the H.264 codec?

Did you use Windows 10? Under 7 it works for me in the past

Thanks to this Reddit post, i got it working.
The problem was the HEVC codec from Windows 10. I dont install it manually.

Remove it and now youtube list me all codecs. Dont know why Firefox works without the removing, but Pale Moon have problems with it.
Maybe we should add a info, solution or workaround for Windows 10 users.

Because of your signature I assumed you were on Windows 7 so didn't suggest it -- we have a good number of threads about this on Windows 10 on this forum already.
