Palemoon 27.5/6/7 x64 doesn't support "MSE & H.264" on Windoiws Vista x64 SP2.

Unread post by ReyZie93 » 2018-01-06, 18:48

After update from Pale Moon 27.4.1 x64 to Pale Moon 27.6.2 (every version after 27.4.1 has this issue too), HTML5 section "MSE & H.264" mark as unsupported (attachment). Some of YouTube videos are unavailable (endless loading). But 32-bit Pale Moon 27.6 doesn't have this problem, "MSE & H.264" works fine. But I have 4-core CPU and 12 GB RAM, so I want to use a 64-bit browser.

Hello!

Commonly MSE & H.264 playback are "borrowed" from Windows drivers setup. The Win 32 version of Pale Moon works if there are native drivers for video. Your bet is to install some 64 bit drivers. I remember that K-lite installs 32bits and 64bits of both drivers, this may work in your case. Just install the "mega" version as it install all codecs available.

I would like to remind people of the following on our website:
*Our support for Windows Vista is limited. Please consider upgrading your O.S. if you are having trouble with the browser.
H.264 is provided by the Windows Media Foundation in the O.S. -- as such the suggestion by Lyceus may be a good idea, but on Vista your mileage may vary.

Off-topic:
On windows 10 it's most likely the issue with Microsoft's broken HEVC codec. please see other threads about that

@lyceus.. Out of curiosity , why do you recommend "mega" variant?
Isn't standard sufiecient for the task?

or the
DC-Bass Source Mod
GraphStudioNext
ACM and VFW codecs

some other optional extras:

ffdshow audio/video processor
This is not something that regular users need.

ffdshow audio/video decoder
An alternative choice for LAV Audio/Video decoder. We highly recommend to use the (default) LAV decoders, as those give the best performance, quality, stability and compatibility. The alternative decoders do NOT allow you to play more files!

AC3Filter
An alternative choice for LAV Audio decoder.

Haali Media Splitter
An alternative choice for LAV Splitter.

Haali Matroska Muxer
play any part...

Thank you

Already have it. Try to update k-lite mega, but no effect on PM. Still same issue.

I know about H.264 by WMF, but Firefox ESR 52.5 haven't this problem, H.264 works fine. I think its something with x64 codecs, but why PM 27.4 x64 works fine?

i researched mp4 h264 code, there no difference
It only checks vista and newer and if its true it load wmf libraries, and nothing more. Where do you take info about drivers? it never connecting drivers directly and should not. k-lite codec also have no direct use in Palemoon. It seems something worng with your wmf codecs.

By the way officeale Mozila firefox has also its own eme codec involved on h264, which Palemoon don't

I recall this from troubles with You Tube video in the Pale Moon Android version. If you install Firefox for Android, it comes with a handy H.264 codec courtesy of Cisco Systems. Of course, we haven't this courtesy and no bundled codec. :( I recommend another safe codec pack named CCCP http://cccp-project.net/ but this codec pack updates not so often. In the good side it may work better in Vista.

That is NOT safe. I have mentioned this before. DO NOT install crazy codec packs on NT 6x systems.

I started getting an error warning about a missing H.264 decoder with the 27.7.2 update. Is this possibly related to the same thing? I'm using Windows 10 Pro x64.

If you're using Windows 10 you likely need to remove the HEVC codec (search the forum for multiple threads about this).

So what happens, when you wish to use HEVC again later.?
Would this still interfere with Palemoon or are there other ways of viewing videos that use HEVC.?
