I never get YouTube ads myself (if we are talking about the leading ads before the actual video plays).... I'm using uBo and assume this is what does the job, if not I also use uMatrix if that makes a difference and thirdly I also use Disconnect. I'm assuming that if uBo isn't what blocks the ads (which I assume is actually the case) then it must uMatrix but if not that then the only thing remaining that could be impacting the ads would be Disconnect....

My understanding is that a youtuber gets paid for invideo ads but doesn't get paid for standard banner ads. So if OP is turning off his adblock and allowing banners and invideo, but then wants to skip the invideo after 5 secs, who is he benefiting? Youtube. Cos you can bet money YT monitors "skipping" and then either gives a prorata payment or none at all.

How ads are paid on youtube is described here on YouTube:

https://creatoracademy.youtube.com/page ... ppy-link-2

According to Youtube, they don't pay for skippable ads that are skipped. They do pay for non skippable ads, displays ads, bumper ads etc if advertiser conditions are met. And of course they pay for skippable ads that are viewed in entirety. One can skip ads and still support content creators by viewing the other ad types or by viewing skippable ads that interests them. That is the whole point of that anyway. The problem is that some ads as earlier described will not skip properly like they should.

Yep. So the OP's OP is invalid, cos even if he got the behaviour he wanted he still wouldn't get his desired result which is supporting the content creator.

To get that, he has to watch 30 secs of a skippable ad.

But there are other Youtube ad forms that pay besides skippable ads and they can only be viewed without an adblocker. So he can be supporting the content creator through those ads. For example, in checking out this issue I noticed a lot of what they call display ads. Some of those pay just for the view depending on setting of advertiser. There are also non skippable ads that pay. And maybe he doesn't want to skip all skippable ads.

The problem here is some of the skippable ads don't skip properly.

The issue occurs when advertisements end normally. Not only when they are skipped.
Off-topic:
I have to wonder, what is the point of making people watch several seconds of skippable ads if they aren't worth any money?

Off-topic:
If a person sticks with the ad they are likely interested in the content since they could have skipped in 5 seconds or whatever the time is. This I guess is considered a quality view and the advertiser is charged accordingly (I wonder if they charge advertiser a small rate for skipped ads/impressions) and of course the content creator gets a small piece. They likely figure it is only 5 seconds so its not such an intrusion/annoyance if one is not interested and they can just skip it.

I disagree and use uBlock Origin and never see ads on Youtube.
