I'm using the latest version of 64 bit Pale Moon on Windows 7. I have no Google software of any kind on the machine. I don't have any cloud drive backup software either. I don't use Google Drive for backup. I just use it to manually upload a file through my browser to Google Drive to share with associates.
Recently whenever I try to upload anything to Google Drive with Pale moon, my CPU jumps up to 35-45% & it's cooling fan kicks in on high. I have a 3.6ghz quad core CPU, so 35-45% is a lot of processing going on for no good reason. During this, I see all 4 cores are very active.
When I upload the same file or any file to Google Drive with Firefox or Opera, CPU usage shows 1% or less. This problem only came up with the latest Pale Moon update. So I tried installing old 27.4 instead, but the problem persists. Monitoring my IP I see no unusual traffic at the time, & when monitoring processes it shows just Pale Moon is using most of the CPU.
Why is PM hogging the CPU when at Google Drive?
I'm using Avast antivirus, but in processes, it shows it's hardly running during this. There is no other anti-malware enabled on the machine.
CPU at 45% when uploading to Google Drive

Re: CPU at 45% when uploading to Google Drive
So I uninstalled Pale Moon (backed up my browser user profiles first). Removed all evidence of PM from the computer. I installed a fresh clean installation of the newest version of PM. With no add-ons, I was still getting 35-45% CPU usage whenever I tried to upload anything to Google drive.
I also tried doing fresh clean installs of Firefox & Opera, & they still showed 1% or less CPU usage when uploading to Google Drive.
Re-installed my browser user profiles on both FF & PM & the high CPU usage while uploading to GD with PM persists. No extra traffic being detected on the IP at the time. In the processes, it shows Pale Moon is using most of the CPU, not other stuff.
Dang, this has me baffled, & I hate changing browsers to do stuff. I can't figure out what's making Pale Moon drive my four 3.6ghz cores up to 35-45% when uploading to Google. There is no Google software on my machines. This is a simple browser upload, the same as one would do to upload something to YouTube or directly to a cPanel folder at a web host.
I own quite a few websites, & collaborate with others on projects, so keep other browsers to make sure the stuff works on almost everything. But it's embarrassing to convince others to use PM, but tell them not to use if for Google Drive or their CPU will spin out of control.

Re: CPU at 45% when uploading to Google Drive
Sorry to bring this up again, but I'm getting no answers, & the problem is not resolved.
If I upload a file or video to YouTube or Google drive from any computer through a Pale Moon browser the CPU usage jumps up to 30-45%. On quad core machines rated at over 3ghz per core, that's a lot of processing power going on for no logical reason. All cores are active during this.
If I upload files or video to my own severs or web hosts through Pale Moon CPU usage stays at 1-2%. If I upload files or video to YouTube or Google drive using Firefox, Waterfox, or Opera the CPU usage also stays at 1-2%.
What the heck is going on? Has anyone figured out what's causing this with Pale Moon yet?

Those links are for using the Drive App, not a direct upload via Pale Moon.Moonraker wrote:Some information here.

I too get high CPU usage of ~30% with Intel Core i7 6700, uploading a file to Drive via Pale Moon. I never notice until checking this thread.
CPU usage spikes as soon as the upload is started.
