I just downloaded and tried Pale Moon Portable on a flash drive.

The only thing that works differently is the Facebook notifications drop down.

All of the other stuff is the same.

Doesn't that suggest that the things that are still not working have something to do with
Pale Moon and not "us".

It can't be cookies, right?

It can't be cache, right?

And it can't even be about:config values or Options.

Or add-ons.

Or plugins?

(although I don't know how Flash works with Portable)

I created a new profile and like Portable, Facebook notifications work, but the rest do not.

If you are going to keep using your "new" profile then you don't have to bother following up. But if you plan on returning to your previous (old) profile then you might make sure that your old profile has the following (default) UA Override for FB: general.useragent.override.facebook.com set to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:99.9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.9 (Pale Moon).
Current Pale Moon(x86) Release | WIN10 | I5 CPU, 1.7 GHz, 6GB RAM, 500GB HD[20GB SSD]
Formerly user Pale Moon Rising - to provide context involving embedded reply threads.

They are ALL already set to that as the DEFAULT value.
I generally do not mess with those unless I "absolutely have to".

There is a problem with 64-bit and some legacy add-ons, or something like that.
I originally had 64-bit but had to remove it and go back to 32-bit.

Against my better judgement (it's already screwed me over on logging into some sites)
I cleared my cookies and my cache and it did nothing.

Neither did it for me. Very disappointing.

You could still try to reinstall Windows 10 and turn off updates. Most likely it is some update what gone bad which may affect Pale Moon but not Firefox.

If everything failed, that would be your best and only option in my opinion.

I would not advise doing so.

First thing i do is always turn off updates permanently on Windows systems. and in over 10 years i never had a security incident ;) Point is, in Windows 10 you get updates forced on you with the quality constantly so-so - you never know what you get and how it affects other programs. Tons of friends with Windows 10 are also utterly frustrated with what Microsoft delivers...

Best and most reasonable thing would be to dump Windows and move to Linux... which i personally will do as soon as 7/8 are no longer supported. If one wants Windows around for gaming reasons, there is still no reason not to install Linux and use that for the majority of computing stuff ;)

Just saying.

The "animated GIF" playing problem is actually an MP4 playing problem.

I don't know how this "we're saying it's a GIF / animated image, but it's really an MP4" thing works,
but it seems to have become fairly popular across the web. You see it on Giphy, Facebook, Twitter, and
quite a few other sites that I've noticed. The only real way to tell what's what is by right-clicking
on it and if it has "Save Image" then it's a GIF, but if it has "Save video" it's probably an MP4.

So that's a clue that should theoretically help someone who knows what they're doing in development
to figure out the problem.

If it worked fine before the update and is broken after the update, it is near 100% a problem of the update.

I know it's harder if it works for some people and not others, and even more so if it works for the
developers and not others, but developers tend to be "Power Users++" which are MUCH different from
every-day users. (and then throw in cross-OS issues, and it's even worse)

I hope someone figures it out soon.

In the meantime, I figured out how to change my "Open In Internet Explorer" extension to "Open In Firefox".
So at least that works, but it's a pain, and unfortunate that "it has come to this".

I don't know if this applies to your situation or if it will be helpful, but this helped video issues I was having with PM in Windows 10:

This page:

http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

Says PM (FF 4.0b11) doesn't support H.264/MP4.

Similarly for this page:

https://www.youtube.com/html5

So that is at least part of the problem.

well I do not know what is meant by 'PM (FF 4.0b11)'... FF 4.0 was released in around October 2015, by the FTP date - I am not sure what old version of PM looked like it - nearest ref in forum I can see is back around 2015 ???

http://www.quirksmode.org does not seem to have been updated since that date - the video they are using is dated 2011... It still works great on my current system...

what ancient palemoon are you using???
