Youtube not working on WinServer2008R2, okay on Win7

Unread post by pcmaster » 2017-09-24, 16:33

Operating system: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Standard, Service Pack 1, Windows_NT 6.1
Browser version: 27.4.2, 20170821181241, 64-bit
Problem URL: youtube.com
Theme: Default
Installed extensions: NoScript 5.0.10
Installed plugins: Adobe Flash 27.0.0.130

Hello, a few months ago, I have no idea with which version exactly, Palemoon stopped playing Youtube videos. I always get the error "An error occured. Please try again later". I searched this forum, Mozilla forums... I didn't find anything recent.

The problem is that on my machine at work, which is exactly the same except the OS is Windows 7 x64 Professional, Service Pack 1, Palemoon works with Youtube just fine.

I tried totally uninstalling Palemoon (I haven't tried nuking Windows Registry, yet, nor deleting prefs.js by hand, though), before that I tried reverting all settings in about:config, I tired uninstalling Flash, I tried unistalling NoScript, I tried running with all extensions disabled, I tried logged in with Google, logged out, Private browsing, normal browsing... Nothing helps. On my 2008R2 machine it doesn't play Youtube, on the 7 machine it does.

I love Palemoon, I've been on it for at least 6 years, I think. Please, help. Thanks for anything!

I do have Desktop Experience installed. I've always had it, already when Palemoon used to render Youtube right.
I also installed Windows Media Services. Didn't help.

Nooo way! It works now, epic, big thanks :) Resolved!
I'm normally reading release notes but I could have missed this. I guess it starting using this feature which is automatically installed on Windows 7, right?

Yes, and moreover, for unexplained reasons Microsoft did not include this update in Windows Update for 2008R2

One simple reason: it a frikkin SERVER O.S. -- those don't need this kind of thing; in fact you usually want to keep it as low on media libs as possible.
