Cannot restore profile from Backup tool

Post by bearpaw » 2017-09-05, 16:11

Trying to move a profile from pc1 to pc2. Did a clean save of current and only profile on pc1 (default) with PM 27.4.1. Move it to pc2 with a clean install of PM 27.4.2 and did a restore. Nothing. And I could swear this worked earlier today with a very old 24.1 profile. However, that too doesn't work now either on the pc2.

Any ideas what's going on here? The PC2 version of PM is completely fresh, in that I remove all references to moon everywhere.

But what was the error you forgot to point.

Profile is a folder on the disk, to copy it no any "backup tool" is needed.

Good point. There was no error. The tool appeared to do a restore appropriately. Then I ran PM and the original default profile was still there - nothing had changed.

Are you saying I can simply copy the profile folder and subfolders over and put them somewhere to get this to work? Did they change the location of these profile folders from 27.4.2? Do you know where they were/are?

Yes, you can copy the profile over - No, the location hasn't changed.
Path (on Windows):

Code: Select all

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\********.default

Navigate there via Help >> Troubleshooting Information, then click the 'Show Folder' button.
Important: Close the browser before you copy anything.

It's probably best to copy just the contents of your old profile (********.default) into the new profile folder (********.default).

(However if you choose to copy 'pc1's' profile folder, make sure to copy the 'pc1' profiles.ini as well and use it to replace the profiles.ini in the "Pale Moon" folder on 'pc2'. That file contains the name(s) and path(s) of your profile(s) - If the profile name in profiles.ini does not match the name of the actual profile, Pale Moon will ignore it and create a new default profile the next time it runs.)

profiles.ini path:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\profiles.ini
