Running PM 27.4.2, getting an "Unsupported Browser" message at Bank of America:

The above is just "one" of a few reasons why I don't do online banking. Banks are hiring lots of so called IT people who just want to make their job.......easy. They only want to support Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers.

When I need to do some banking, I pick up the phone and make a phone transfer. In the case of a large credit card payment (anything over $300), I call the credit card company, talk with a customer service rep and then give the rep my bank's 9 digit routing number along with my account number and the credit card company gets the payment right then and there. Takes me about 5 minutes of time and I don't have to deal with the "unsupported browser" nuisance because of lazy IT banking people.

Small payments, I write a check and use snail mail.

Change the BofA about:config UA Override setting: general.useragent.override.bankofamerica.com to this: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0

With this setting you will not get the BofA browser warning banner.

Note what I get on the second link you provided: I have to do this with not only BofA, but also Citibank and US Bank (requires v45+) - imperious banks ....

I do ALL my banking on-line ---- you just have to play the UA Override game with them. .... but don't tell them -- they might try and figure something else out to cause more problems.

But if someone would hack into my computers through some malware, depending on which one of my four computers I'm using at the moment, there is no banking/financial info of any kind on any of my computers so the miscreant who planted the malware is SOL if you get my drift.

I use multiple/redundant security software and use just one computer for banking as I would find it very difficult to not use on-line banking in my case ---- and of course the safeguards that banks use aside, a specific banks software can be potentially hacked as well which is totally outside of our control.

In regards to specific banks browser requirements it can get confusing, for example:

Wow. All this makes me glad that I bank with a small, local credit union. They are very much willing to work with me personally if I have trouble conducting transactions online.

But come to think of it, I really don't do that many transactions online. The credit & charge cards I use, with the exception of those operated by Synchrony Bank, I have not had a problem using Pale Moon on Linux. The one exception I mentioned, I had to use Chromium web browser (not Opera, not any other derivative), otherwise I wouldn't even have it installed on my system.

I've been getting that message from BofA for many years, with the current release versions of Firefox and their default user-agent strings. As near as I can tell, it does
not affect the functioning of the BofA online banking site in any way, i.e. a thing that can and should be ignored.

You are absolutely correct, in most cases this is an arbitrary warning that banks render since the actual site in most every case works fine. For those who do not like to see the banner however, simply changing the UA Override to what I have posted above eliminates the banner.

As you can see in regards to the Citibank banner I mentioned above (and most other banks are similar), they are very vague on what the browser requirements are as far as the versions for each browser that they recommend that has a lot to do with the fact in general the warnings are in many ways meaningless and more of an irritant than anything else. Fact is Pale Moon has no issues with any banks I use but rather it's more the security extensions that can cause problems because of some of the coding methods some of the banks use.

Thanks for all your responses. If it becomes particularly annoying I'll go the override route.
