Actually, in regards to what Moderator satrow was talking about, I was scrolling through my plugins listed when I noticed NVidia had two 3D vision plugins enabled for this browser. So, since it's apparently a problem, I decided to disable them, and give it one more go before I do a clean wipe (for the record, it had crashed one more time since my last post).

The two plugins could certainly be causing the problem, hopefully this is the answer to resolving your crash issue.Mako109 wrote:Actually, in regards to what Moderator satrow was talking about, I was scrolling through my plugins listed when I noticed NVidia had two 3D vision plugins enabled for this browser. Unfortunately, it still crashed.Pale Moon Rising wrote:The two plugins could certainly be causing the problem, hopefully this is the answer to resolving your crash issue.Mako109 wrote:Actually, in regards to what Moderator satrow was talking about, I was scrolling through my plugins listed when I noticed NVidia had two 3D vision plugins enabled for this browser. Re: It just... dies.
Are you running Avast as A/V?
I haven't really looked at this thread deeply but this stuck out. I think I saw that.
One thing i would suggest to try is to turn off Avast and use windows defender for a/v duties - i think i read you are using win 10
(keep malwarebytes on computer for on demand scans)
Practice good surfing habits during this (and always).
See if the crashes stop with Avast out of the picture would be my suggestion.
If you tried that already then just ignore and i hope you solve your problem soon.

Re: It just... dies.
I will be watching this thread with great anticipations & expectations. So far, due to my lowest level of computer technical literacy, my only recourse is to fall back to what I deem is the last "Stable Version" (which preceded all the crashing/freezing insanity) I fall back to what I deem is the last "Stable Version" v26.5
So, my only hope with this thread is that those involved directly will explain (when possible) any valid sure-fire fixes, & help those like myself to see if they are applicable in stopping our individual problems. So, by all means keep reporting what steps eventually enable you to resolve your particular problem, which only affects users since version 27.0 was first posted for download on the official website by it's creators.

Re: It just... dies.
Right now, with the help of that friend I mentioned earlier, I nuked Avast. I turned Windows Defender on Full Blast, downloaded CCleaner AND Malwarebytes to start scanning through things. I'm also still looking into my Direct X situation; see if that might be causing an issue.tenseys wrote:Are you running Avast as A/V?

So far, I haven't had any crashes, but I'm also not holding my breath. Still, fingers crossed!

I would use Malwarebytes on demand - the way the free version is. It is a great program.
Ccleaner be careful with the registry cleaning -I've never had a problem with it - but some people have so you might want to avoid it.
Dont' let it "monitor".
With windows defender I have never got a virus or malware - but I'm also careful. Occasionally i use MBAM for an on demand scan - never a problem. I use ublock origin in browser.
Good luck man. I hope you have smooth sailing ahead. If not, hope you are able to resolve this problem.

I also use uBlock Origin. I hope it's not causing the issue; no uBlock, no browser. That's basically how I feel about that.
Re: It just... dies.
Ublock origin is a great, awesome program as well. I've tried to blame it for stuff but it doesn't pan out.Mako109 wrote:tenseys wrote:Mako109 wrote:Right now, with the help of that friend I mentioned earlier, I nuked Avast. Hopefully it has nothing to do with your issue.
I used AVast in the past and it caused all kinds of weird stuff to happen. Maybe it has nothing to do with your issue but A/V often are behind issues so I think that is a good place to start... good luck!
Re: It just... dies.
btw, i think avast recently bought ccleaner so who knows how that program will continue.. think i read they will keep it the same.... i would not use the monitor function on it - use it on demand like MBAM. Also, just basics, check your startup make sure nothing funky in there - really you just absolutely need defender running though I suppose it is possible to require other things depending on specific config .... gl.
Re: It just... dies.
I... don't know what's going on anymore.
Re: It just... dies.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully someone here can help you figure it out.
Re: It just... dies.
I think you stated that it happens after you watch videos. Have you tried completely uninstalling flash and then clean installing it?
I don't know if PM uses flash that much so don't know if that will help.

It will with flash, but also will some other times as well.tenseys wrote:I think you stated that it happens after you watch videos. Have you tried completely uninstalling flash and then clean installing it?

I just... want to know the specific issue that's causing the crash. Can't the crash report be dredged for a precise cause? Or something? I don't know... I'm no programmer.
I didn't want to have to say this, but... where's the primary Dev? I don't like begging for attention or nothing, but "Your program is constantly and consistently crashing" seems like a pretty big issue.
Re: It just... dies.
Turn off hardware acceleration in the browser
Install also that here: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pm-commander/
Then go to Pale Moon button - options - advanced options (with that you enter the pm-commander settings)
And do the following:
- Turn off everyting inside graphics - rendering (just remove every checkbox checked there)
Videos? Flash/HTML5? If Flash... Turn off hardware acceleration of flash too.

Re: It just... dies.
Ok. I've done everything you asked. Although, to get to the PM Commander settings, I had to go directly to the add-ons page and click options under PM Commander. Anyway, I'll report back what happens.Sajadi wrote:Turn off hardware acceleration in the browser

Re: It just... dies.
Disabling hardware acceleration in the browser will likely solve your crashes, but it's also a rather blunt way of dealing with the problem, and you may end up with a lot less performance from the browser than you could have...
A more fine-grained way, if you already have Pale Moon commander installed, is to try and set the layers acceleration mode to either Direct3D 9 or OpenGL in Graphics, tab Rendering. If that doesn't help, on the same tab, try disabling layers acceleration.
You can access pale Moon Commander's option from the Pale Moon menu, by the way, under Options -> Advanced options...
Unfortunately, because the crashes are in the DirectX module, there's no real way for us to work around it otherwise (since it's not our code!).

Re: It just... dies.
Ok, so the crash is coming from Direct X, I don't know, throwing a fit or something? Is it Direct X and Pale Moon just naturally conflicting in some way, or is it a result of something about DX being, pardon the french, fucked up on my side? Because if it IS me, I'd rather not have a rotten, cancerous DX sitting on my SSD. I'd want to know how to begin fixing it.
I'll also experiment with those fine grain options you talk about.
Re: It just... dies.
In case anyone wanted closure, the advice of turning off hardware acceleration in the browser seemed to work like a charm. Haven't crashed in days~
Re: It just... dies.
Neither!Mako109 wrote:Is it Direct X and Pale Moon just naturally conflicting in some way, or is it a result of something about DX being, pardon the french, fucked up on my side?
DX crashes are usually caused by an interoperability issue between the way Pale Moon wants to use DirectX to speed up rendering of complex pages, and the video driver not liking the result after translation through the DX subsystem. The video driver returns an unexpected failure, the DX library doesn't know what to do with it, crashes, and takes the application down with it (because Pale Moon in turn needs it for it's accelerated rendering, and when that gets yanked out from under us, a crash is inevitable).
