Because that's what (most) websites of today expect from your browser for proper video playback. And because it is the standard. https://www.w3.org/TR/media-source/#mediasource-events

This is not related to the topic of this thread (which concerns YouTube's recent action to end the use of Flash Player on its watch pages).

Please start a new thread in General Support for problems with playing video on rt.com, if you want support for that.
And give it a topic-specific title, for example "Problems with video on rt.com." ;)

I can play YouTube videos without any problems whether I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 27.4.0 in 64 bit linux Mint 18.2 or if I'm using 32 bit windows Pale Moon 27.4.0 in 64 bit Windows 7 in any of my four computers.

And my oldest computer is a 2010 model HPE desktop tower with an Intel i7 processor (2.80 processor speed), 16 GB of memory and a very old Nvidia GT 220 graphics card. Plays both YouTube videos and Vimeo videos without any problems. I usually play YouTube videos in 720p high definition if YouTube offers high definition for the video.

Since Google which owns YouTube and has killed off Flash for YouTube, Html5 Video Element gives me no problems in Pale Moon with regards to watching YouTube videos.

The only addons/extensions I use in (linux & windows) Pale Moon are NoSquint and Adblock Latitude.
Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox

When i watch in external player (vlc) in 720p use CPU ~ 40%
The same video in Html5 in 360p CPU usage 100%
Thanks. I've been having a lot of problems with HTML 5 this year and using this add-on has saved me from that headache.

It looks like it's still possible to play youtube videos with flash in Firefox, using this extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-player/

I've just tested it and it works. (see https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=15883) However, I do not know if it's possible to use this extension with Pale Moon.

I also tried this extension to play videos with an external player instead: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/yt2p/ Unfortunately it does not seem to pass the URL to the player properly on linux.

Changing the URL to the embedded form of the video does not for me either.

If I find a solution I'll post it here; for now it looks like I'm just going to have to either use the HTML5 player or download videos using Complete YouTube Saver.
