The two operate independently:

Clearing history/data via Ctrl+Shift+Delete clears selected categories immediately on demand.

In contrast, the settings in Options/Privacy/History tab tell the browser what to clear upon exit.

OK, thanks very much.

How can I tell Pale Moon to clear Form & Search History on demand, please? When I try to check that box, nothing happens.

@JoeyG, Sorry for the late reply.

The screenshot in your original post shows that you have Pale Moon set to not remember search and form history (box is unchecked).

The check box to clear "Search & Form History" on demand won't retain a check mark unless you have enabled the browser to remember that category of history - and have browsed around a bit and actually generated and saved some "Form & Search History" (stored in formhistory.sqlite). Otherwise there is nothing capable of being cleared.

Once the above has been done, if the box is still unchecked, re-check it and click 'Clear Now' to make sure the setting sticks.

(And just fyi, the about:config preference for this is privacy.cpd.formdata and default value is true)
