Re: GMX webmail interface
Another thing too.. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting the nag at the log on page..
Note: Your browser version is outdated. We recommend using Firefox 47. Download now for free
Strangely enough, if you click on the link, it takes you to some other page to download Firefox rather than the official mozilla site; this I find odd. I would hesitate to download/trust their customized version of firefox - which I'm guessing that is what that must be.

Re: GMX webmail interface
As I suspected, the support at GMX told me my browser isn't supported.
Here is part of the response after sending a screenshot with the blank page and then another with the word poseidon removed showing that the page loads fine.
Bottom line: as long as the removal of the word poseidon works, I'll continue using Palemoon as my preferred browser.

My browsers are updated almost as soon as I discover an update is available. Since flash is up to date, for non -IE browsers the Tuesday update 12 July and on IE the Tuesday and Thursday updates 12th and 14th of July and Java is not installed, so these are non-issues. Cookies are removed when I close the browser with an addon I have to manage cookies.I ask for your understanding that Pale Moon is actually not one of our supported browsers.
Please make sure that you are using the latest version of your internet browser, your Flash player and that you re-install Java with the latest update. Make sure you have enabled JavaScript (as outlined here: https://help.gmx.com/en/home/recommenda ... javascript. Furthermore, please delete the cookies and temporary internet files of your browser to ensure that these do not cause problems.
...I also recommend that you try another browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, etc.
Let me know if the problem persist, even when following the recommendations above.
Bottom line: as long as the removal of the word poseidon works, I'll continue using Palemoon as my preferred browser.

GMX has always presented that nag to me, but it has still worked fine until now, even with my ad blocker turned on.plodr wrote:As I suspected, the support at GMX told me my browser isn't supported....

Possibly 'The Boss' could weigh in here on what HE thinks is happening, and whether we can adjust PM to get along with GMX and MAIL.com, without editing our URL for those sites every day ?

Re: GMX webmail interface
It has to be something at GMX because it does work with FF without removing the word poseidon.
I don't wish to fire up FF, my backup browser, or IE, my backup for the backup browser, just to view daily email on one site.
Is there a Palemoon addon to trick the browser so it says you are running FF when you aren't?

Re: GMX webmail interface
I think it's something related to GMX moving back into the .DE fold, not directly related to FF detection.
I'm back on 26.3.3 now, snipping .poseidon works fine and it has no impact on any other site, which would not necessarily be the case if you used an Add-on.

I know I do, point being all I did was edit my start-page link to my MAIL.com log-in to remove "poseidon" and I'm good to go
Btw, Pale Moon does have a default start-page which is start.me where the URL link can be edited in that case to remove "poseidon" from the URL address (as for me I use a quicker start-page). So it doesn't have to be a daily issue to edit the URL every time actually since this resolves the problem during the time snipping this part of the URL remains necessary for the URL to work.
You're absolutely correct Davesnothere, I had tested this while logged-in, your point is valid however because Mail.com does not provide the option to stay logged-in (one of the huge drawbacks for this email provider).

Hmmmm, I just now manually went to http://www.gmx.com/ and tried to login.Pale Moon Rising wrote: Don't most people use a browser start-page?

The problem seems to be that the 'poseidon' subdomain prefix only appears in the address box AFTER the login has been performed, so how can a 'startup page' ( essentially a bookmark, set to http://www.gmx.com/ ) help with THAT ?
I still have to manually remove the offending string after logging in.
Or does the Pale-Moon default start-page work differently than what I just described ?
Besides, I have my browsers set to return to my previous session on launch, and that setting would likely prevent me from using the Pale-Moon default start-page anyway, wouldn't it ?

I agree with all of that, and an Add-On could be interesting.plodr wrote:It has to be something at GMX because it does work with FF without removing the word poseidon.

Yes, I just got a nag for a new ToS for .DE (three days after this problem began) and figured (in hindsight) that it might be connected to the problem.satrow wrote:I think it's something related to GMX moving back into the .DE fold, not directly related to FF detection....

Yes, I'm sure it is. They distinguish one browser from another but NONE of this is about UA sniffing. I had tried a FF 47 user agent with GMX to no effect.
Just now got a repeat notification upon signing in:
Changes to your GMX Service
Dear GMX Member,
In the past, the GMX Service was provided to you by 1&1 Mail & Media Inc.
After August 31st, 2016 the service can be provided to you by 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH in order to ensure the high level of performance and data protection you are used to.
What you can do at this point is to click on “I agree” which will confirm that you have reviewed and accept the Terms and Conditions of 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH as of now.

Please agree to the Terms & Conditions of the future provider of the GMX Services, 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, to be able to continue using your GMX account after August 31st, 2016.
Just fyi: GMX, mail.com, WEB.DE (from this thread) and 1&1 are all owned by United Internet AG. I clicked "ask me later" which sent me to the blank page where snipping .poseidon for now still worked.
Edit:
Davesnothere, sorry for the timing.

Your timing is fine.coffeebreak wrote: ....Davesnothere, sorry for the timing.
You added some new info about this issue, and saved me fiddling with UA strings for now.
And I'm sure that there are other frustrated folks reading along - or who will soon.
The message, BTW, is identical to the one which I received, on a nag screen, just before the UI went blank.
You would think that if they could make ONE screen show, that they could make another one function too.

Re: GMX webmail interface
Davesnothere, you're absolutely correct, Mail.com does not provide the option to stay logged-in unfortunately. I tested this while I was logged in at the time, so thanks for pointing out the error of my ways.
I've done a strike-out on the post to address this.
Of course I do have a couple of Mail.com accounts, but the fact is I never use them as you might imagine as I had forgotten Mail.com does not stay logged-in.
(the inability to stay logged-in is one of the major reasons why btw that I never use them
)

Seriously ?Klappis wrote:....funny thing i have gotten several spams in the latest week which i haven't got before. This is really strange!
So have I !
In fact, I had turned on their spam filter for the first time in response to that, and I had thought that doing so might have been the reason for my experiencing the problem which is the main the topic of this thread, as it all happened on the same day, in sequence.
So I turned it back off, logged out and back in, and the 'poseidon' prefix was still there for me to delete, and the blank screen if I did not.
Then I turned it back on, and one more spam came with it on, but at least was flagged properly and put in the spam folder, where the earlier spams had stayed in my inbox until I dealt with them myself.
I should mention that there were a total of 3 spams so far, and each had a different sender name, but all seemed to show a single sender email which was at GMAIL.com, and with the front part the same as my GMX address.

Neither does GMX allow a persistent login, which is MY version of the service, with the same UI, last time I checked.Pale Moon Rising wrote:Davesnothere, you're absolutely correct, Mail.com does not provide the option to stay logged-in unfortunately. This seems not to be a coincidence. Somewhere there's a big leaked database of GMX users. Gotta let them know.Davesnothere wrote:Seriously ?Klappis wrote:....funny thing i have gotten several spams in the latest week which i haven't got before. This is really strange!

GMX acquired Mail.com somewhere around 2-3 years ago which would account for the same UI for the two of them and it appear that perhaps more recently 1&1 Media Inc. has merged with GMX at some point.

Re: GMX webmail interface
Yes, the first merger happened sometime before the Autumn of 2013, when I did a big research project to compare among over a dozen free and low-cost providers of WebMail, due to being grumpy at Yahoo's inept handling of their own UI changes at the time.Pale Moon Rising wrote: ....GMX acquired Mail.com somewhere around 2-3 years ago which would account for the same UI for the two of them and it appear that perhaps more recently 1&1 Media Inc. has merged with GMX at some point.
The two also had a matching UI back then, though both have changed accordingly to what they are now, which, BTW, included adding a then-missing feature which had stopped me from considering them in 2013 - the ability to add a 'Star' or a 'Flag' to received messages.

Re: GMX webmail interface
Maybe we GMX users should be looking elsewhere (and tell GMX). There seem to be plenty of free accounts out there. It means a bit of hassle but I expect that the workaround will close and then we will be stumped. Is there any way to auto remove poseidon from the url after logging in?
