Problem with Google+ and latest Palemoon?

Unread post by MaxRD » 2011-09-22, 16:28

Windows 7 32bit.
Palemoon latest updated: 3.6.23

Had been working GREAT up to now, it is my default browser. After a recent update when I am in Gmail and see a Google+ Notification I click it only to be told:
"Your browser configuration is not supported. Learn more Update to a modern browser"
If I go directly to Google+ I can log-in but I am still given the same message at the top of the screen.

Of course if I click LEARN MORE it directs me to a page recommending Google Chrome, Firefox, IE (uh), Safari.

I do not want to use another browser JUST for Google+

Is this a known issue? Will it be corrected?

This is probably Google wanting to push for browsers with better HTML5 support.
If your hardware and OS supports it, you can use Pale Moon 6.x - it runs well on Win XP now as well (unlike v4 and v5)

UPDATE: For the record I am using the latest Palemoon 64bit on my Desktop (Win7 64bit) and Palemoon 32 bit on my laptop (Win7 32bit) and have the same issue on both.

Well, I hope there is an update or fix at some point, I prefer to use the latest version of Palemoon always. I would think as Google+ get's more popular many more people will be annoyed if they cannot use the latest Palemoon with it.

What do you mean with latest Pale Moon? Guess 6.02. Actually 7 beta r3 would be latest. But with 6.02 it shouldn't disturb you anymore. Do you have any add-on or personal setting changing the user-agent? Also this would be a temporary solution so set a user agent where google doesn't disturb you.

As in latest NON-BETA release. When I check for updates form the browser (current 3.6.26) when I check about I get "version 3.6.26" and when I check for updates I am told no newer version available.

User agent? I am not too technically inclined, I have no idea what that means, I use many add-ons though.

DOH! Sorry guys. I was confused.

Not sure WHY I was still using 3x versions.

Downloading the latest 6.0.2 version NOW. Thanks for the help and excuse my brain fart.

Hopefully that will fix my issues.

But be aware that with Firefox 4 a real major release has been done, 5.x and 6.x were just minor releases. Still as it might work, it's better to uninstall old version first or install new one in a new folder and use a new profile (check http://www.htmlcenter.com/blog/multiple-firefox-installs/).

FYI: You didn't get an update message as this (i believe) won't be done for major/main releases as it's a new version and shouldn't be updated but clean installed!

Because of the big differences between 3.6.x and 4.x+ and because both branches are separately maintained, there was no "pushed upgrade" for Pale Moon. On purpose, to make it a conscious decision to upgrade instead of suddenly having half your extensions break ;)

That's what i thought. Just wrote it for purpose a bit non-detailed as f.e. what will be at PM7? Cause as we just found out it causes problems with upgrading from 6.02. I guess due to their redesign for less memory useage and -errors. It might be fixed (if even possible/a real bug) - i don't really check (most) bugzilla reports - but will you still trigger an update if it's not fixed?

Keep in mind that it is a beta
The code is not finalized and especially compatibility will have to be worked on. That's why I do not release Pale Moon beta versions usually, and stick to release code only. The beta is for the curious - make backups before you install it, and if you run into issues that hamper your daily browsing, go back to a finalized previous stable release version.

Yeah - for me i installed in a separate folder and use a new profile. At least i always do that when using a beta version or know about some problems/major changes that could lead to them. What i at least wanted to say: it could happen again that an update is not triggered. So you should at least register for newsletter and check your mails as it's the easiest way to stay informed about new releases and important informations on them.

EDIT: out of "Firefox 7 is one week away!" blog-entry (comes 27.09):
„For those of you who like waiting until the final version is available in order to test and upgrade their add-ons (which we don’t recommend), you can treat the current Firefox 7 beta 6 as the final build. Unless something urgent comes up, that is Firefox 7.“
Or do you mean you are doing compatibility updates?

Palemoon v3.6.23 and 3.6.24 both have the same problem when accessing Google Plus.

It says "Your browser configuration is not supported. Learn more Update to a modern browser" and the stream input box will not open via the "share..." button on the right side of the Google service Menu bar.

BUT v3.6.22 has no such issue.

In that case it seems Google is being BAD and still doing useragent string checking, and tripping over a gecko revision of 1.9.2+ (which IS valid)

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for that, unless you grab an add-on that allows you to override the useragent string with something proprietary.
