I just updated to the new 26.0.3 version Friday afternoon, and since then every time I start the browser it tells me the software update has failed, and to check that there are no other copies of Pale moon running. I've checked and there aren't any other copies running. I've tried redoing the update from the help menu and it hasn't changed. I even went as far as uninstalling, removing the profile etc. and re-installing from the executable, but the message still pops up each time I start the browser. It also seems somewhat slow to start up now as well.
Any suggestions? Is there a setting that tells it that there is still an update pending that I can switch off? Thanks for any help you can offer!

Re: Software update failure
Welcome to the forum Patchinator,
Have you done a system reboot at any point?
Have you tried (from PM button) "Help" > "Troubleshooting Information"?
I'm assuming you're not finding an instance of Pale Moon in Task Manager prior to starting the browser.

Re: Software update failure
Thanks Pale Moon Rising!,
Yep I rebooted a few times since actually. The Troubleshooting info doesn't see to say anything obvious I can see, it is pasted into the bottom of my first post there so I'm not sure if you can see anything that looks flaky from that. The version number appears correct but it still insists that the update failed each restart.
I've uninstalled the browser totally, and re-installed it fresh with no add-ons and it still pops up telling me the update failed in that fresh state
. I'm thinking it hasn't cleaned everything out during the uninstall process, like a registry setting or config item etc. Other than the startup popup the browser works fine..
Cheers!

Re: Software update failure
Sometimes, things like antivirus software will interfere with the update process and prevent the browser updater from removing in-progress update files. This has been the main reason why we no longer offer partial updates, because that was an issue in many more cases with hotpatching.
To solve this, you need to remove these temporary files manually.

Re: Software update failure
Thanks Moonchild, that did it!
I knew there had to be something somewhere that was being held back after the uninstall. And just to confirm your antivirus hypothesis, Symantec just popped up disallowing the newest version because less than 50 users have it installed.
Really? LOL They would prefer I use an older less secure version because Simon Symantec didn't say "GO!". Ok so I did that too. I rolled back to 25.8.1 since this is my work laptop and I have zero control over Symantec. I'll have to wait until they find out that newer browsers are better before updating again LOL!
Thanks again Moonchild!
