Pale Moon not allowing other program windows to front

Post by Hugh Jarse » 2016-02-11, 02:18

Hi, as per title. been using Pale Moon for ages, ever since Mozilla told us users we would love the tab changes they forced on us, and love it. For a while now when PM has been in use other windows stay in the background, and the only way to access the windows behind is to minimize PM. To cure the issue, simply closing and restarting PM fixes the problem for maybe an hour or two until the same thing happens again.

I have tried running PM with addons disabled and cant replicate the problem, but then it may not have been run long enough either, as there does not seem to be any trigger causing it.

I am running windows 7 64bit pro, desktop, and PM 25.8 32bit. I updated to 26 a while back but could not post on a forum important to me. Moving back to 25.8 fixed that problem immediately.

Any ideas as to the cause of the browser not allowing other windows to the foreground?

I am using adblock latitude
add to searchbar
Colt
Download manager tweak
Google translater
lastpass
lazarus
Malware search
Noia moon options
Tab mix plus
Textmarker go
Wot

and plugins
Foxit Phantom pdf
Intel identity protection, and updater
Microsoft Office 2010
Shockwave flash 20

Thank you

If you're familiar with and feel comfortable using regedit (note: use with caution) you could try the following (assuming the Registry setting either does not exist or is not set to "0"):

1) Go to Start > "Run" and type “regedit” (without quotes)
2) Navigate to the following path: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
3) Determine if an existing value for "ForegroundLockTimeout" is set to "0", if it is not modify the value to "0". (all without quotes)
4) If "ForegoundLockTimeout" is not set (does not exist) then Right-Click on the empty space and create a new DWORD value to create "ForegroundLockTimeout" and set the value to "0". (this value will cause the launched application to take the focus instantly.)
5) That’s it, you're Done. Just Exit the Registry and restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Hi again, The registry key and value was in place and set to "0" so unfortunately that didn' resolve it.

Another thing that's been happening lately is inability to connect to a particular forum that's important to me. PM allows me to in safe mode (no addons) so I went through them and found the culprit to be adblock latitude. Removing it fixed the issue and using Ublock origin seems fine, and PM has not prevented any new windows from being in the foreground since. Still testing.

Haven't experienced that problem with ABL myself. I've used uBlock Origin for some time but have been using ABL as well because for some time uBlock would not always fire when pages loaded. This problem w/ Ublock Origin has improved in newer PM versions however.

The problem can happen with Flash, usually it's my first target, but if it doesn't happen with add-ons disabled, time to bounce on the add-on removal/disable train.
I use LastPass, sometimes uBlock/Adblock Latitude, and Tab Mix Plus. Neither of those have ever done this.

You have the other options left, even plugins.
