made it with this! thanks a lotUCyborg wrote: ↑2025-12-04, 20:21This is a good source for installable DEBs that work with Mint: https://kannegieser.net/palemoon/
You could install from repository using the instructions or download DEB from the link on that page. It will be updatable through package manager if you add the repo and you can also install language packs from it too, the package name for specific language pack is "palemoon-langpack-xy" (xy being language code).

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
For future reference, it's possible to install from kanngeiser.net repo without touching the terminal, this is for AVX GTK2 variant (only what you type in step 4 differs for other variants):
- Download repo authentication key file from https://kannegieser.net/palemoon/veit@kannegieser.net.pgp and save it somewhere accessible.
- Launch Software Sources application.
Under Authentication Keys, click Import and browse to the file you downloaded earlier.
Actually, you're supposed to copy the file to /usr/share/keyrings (open your file manager as root - right-click any folder and Open as administrator to do so).
Because Software Sources imports it the old, not recommended way to /usr/share/keyrings/trusted.gpg file. And it doesn't show keys imported the recommended way. Sigh, Linux and GUI, always second class.- Under Additional Repositories, click Add and enter the following in the text field:
Code: Select all
deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/veit@kannegieser.net.pgp] https://kannegieser.net/palemoon avx_gtk2 main - Confirm with OK, then click the green button to refresh apt cache.
- Now you can find the browser in Software Manager.

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
Hello UCyborg,
I guess "Software Sources" is Synaptic? That does not know the deb822 format yet, true.
My points for "installing" would be
+ share between users of a machine
- if there would be more than one user
- could also chose be shared directory when extracting the tar.xz
+ registering with the application with update-alternatives, and place desktop files so that for example the help/about of Ida Pro knows how to open the user preferred browser
- yes could be done manually
+ install and track dependencies, like libavcodec versions
+ automatic update with all other programs
- sometimes you may want to not update
I think for that you would need a graphical? file manager running as root to drop the key in the correct place.

I do can not find that here in Debian 13, what is that?

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
Systems Reports is one of Mint's graphical features. System Reports includes System Information where one can see what is on their system running Mint.
System Reports is not in Debian 13.2 (Trixie) which is my backup distro to MX Linux. In Debian 13.2, you have to use the Terminal to see what is on your computer using Debian (13.2). I am typing this post using Debian.
So my system information is below using the Terminal. And I have to use this code to get it at the Terminal's prompt. And "inxi" has to be installed if it is not. Type in the code and tap your Enter key.

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
Oh yeah, guess I should have clarified we're still talking about Linux Mint since OP is running Mint. That part is easy.Veit Kannegieser wrote: ↑2025-12-14, 21:05I think for that you would need a graphical? file manager running as root to drop the key in the correct place.
I just tried doing it myself through GUI because why not and considering some folks are not fond of terminal and since it's generally still needed more often than on Windows, to prove you may not need it to install Pale Moon system-wide and have it setup to update through package management facilities.

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
Thanks, installed and tried it, nice tool to collect information. Not found crash information yet, possibly because of disabled core dumps?
Will think about it, and maybe make a simplified chapter for GUI users.
Thanks for the hints!

Re: How can I install Pale Moon on Linux?
Since you are using Debian, I will give you one more tip.Veit Kannegieser wrote: ↑2025-12-15, 22:35Thanks, installed and tried it, nice tool to collect information. Not found crash information yet, possibly because of disabled core dumps?
If you go back and look at my System, you will see it says I am using; Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 13 (Trixie). But I am now using Debian 13.2 which is the point release. The System does not list (13.2).
But if you are using 13.2, it came through the Debian updates. To find out what version is listed in your Debian 13, you have to use the Terminal one more time. Open the Terminal and type the code below at the prompt;
Code: Select all
cat /etc/debian_versionCode: Select all
joe@joe:~$ cat /etc/debian_version
13.2
joe@joe:~$
