Unread post by kiwiz » 2025-04-18, 09:02

Hello,

I've got an old eeePC asus - inter atom 1.60ghz - 330 CPU - 2Go RAM with windows 7
I want my kid to learn typing on websites like these :
https://www.typinggames.zone/
https://www.logicieleducatif.fr/jeu/clavinator

but the games doesn't load. I don't know what I have to install.

Maybe I'm missing a flash player or something?
Have a nice day pals!

I just checked on Win10 without flash and it runs fine (it seems to use canvas+html, not flash).
It's possible your old computer does not have proper hardware acceleration for the intended use; there doesn't seem to be anything particularly incompatible with the browser.

If you want to connect this computer to the internet, run an operating system that receives security updates, e.g. Debian with LXDE will work.

Second, this CPU is form ~2010 and was very slow even then. Most websites are not usable anymore on this.

Yes an Atom 330 was slow even when it was new. You should probably just look at a better second-hand PC than a very low-power device from 15 years ago.

I tried once to use an acer aspire netbook to run firefox this was before webextensions btw. It ran so slow, lol.

But then again, my netbook had 1GB of ram. You might have a better situation since you have 2GB of ram. Although I did use a flavor of linux which helped the speed greatly.

But your mileage may vary.

it`s not the browser(PM itc) issue, this is a '""""""""""""modern"""""""""""' websites issue.

I tryed Atom(PC 4GB) to make iptv platform on my kitchen and it failed. Even work with IPTV is too much for an Atom...

I got curious and even took out my old tv-box PIPO x7
Intel Atom Z3736F 1.33GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows 8.1 with Bing (32 bit)

I tested two games:
https://www.typinggames.zone/typingattack
https://www.typinggames.zone/keytower

Games work fine with Firefox 38.0.5. They work with Pale Moon too, but the site constantly loads some scripts from all sorts of third-party servers like dblclick and this causes the game to lag. Old Firefox doesn't have this problem, apparently third-party scripts simply can't work on such an old browser. :D

Well, it would be more of a browser issue if that computer mentioned had 1GB of ram instead of 2GB of ram.

Because acer aspire one if I remember correctly has an intel atom processor. ;)

Which is quite lousy.

EDIT: I looked and boy was I right:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_Aspire_One

The one I was using had an intel atom and not the AMD one as well as 1GB of ram too. 1.66ghz processor is was no good then and the moment I tried to go on youtube, it crashed the system. I don't remember if I tried to use invidio back then because I don't think it existed then. But yeah... no good.
