Not sure when it first happened, but recently I've found that CookieSwap no longer works. Launching Pale Moon the cookie selector says "CookieSwap". Changing it to any other setting causes Pale Moon to crash now.

Obviously an out of date add-on, but is there a fix or a suggested replacement?

This looks like a hack to implement container functionality. Use Priv8, also an old addon but works fine. You'll find it on the Classic Addons Archive.

Spent some more time, and it looks like something changed in PM.
Deleting the old Profiles from the (.\AppData\Roaming\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\CookieSwap) folder and creating new ones fixed the issue.

Something about the old cookies seems to have become incompatible.

Edit: Wait... no. Quit, came back later, switched the profile and got a crash again. I don't think that other addon you recommend is similar though.

Assuming you want to run multiple accounts from the same service on the same Pale Moon profile, that is exactly what Priv8 does. Each container is isolated from the rest of the browser in terms of cookies and history, so you can create multiple containers for the same site, eg Facebook, and login using different accounts on each one.

I recall in other posts you saying that you had a fork of Priv8 that made great improvements to the UI and improved usability. Will you ever be making it public? I require something similar to Container Tabs because I am using Pale Moon for both regular and work purposes but I can't afford to cross-contaminate the two together. I'm currently using Priv8 from the CAA but it has some obvious issues that I'm unable to fix myself that have been pointed out in other threads.

Guess what? It happens!
Unmaintained add-ons may stop working. That understanding was the condition under which we kept the option to install Firefox add-ons. It's up to the community to make sure either alternatives exist or that add-ons are maintained or forked for use on Pale Moon.

I want to, and it's very ambitious UI wise; but there's some hiccups I haven't been able to get around due to it being written for Firefox when the latter was transitioning to multi-process. I'd say it is 80% working compared to Priv8, and the UI extensions (being able to mark what container to run a bookmark from), as well as forcing a site to always open in a specific container regardless of where it's launched from, are challenges.

Speaking just for myself, at this point I'm so used to the Priv8 workflow (creating the container tab before opening the site) that I would be more than happy to have an updated version that doesn't have the auto-open features like Firefox's container tabs extension. In fact, if all you did was make the Priv8 settings manager slightly less ugly you would be doing the world a big favor. So, maybe don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good?

I wouldn't, and I've already converted it to a XUL extension (the containers are now managed from a regular dialog box instead of a webpage in a tab - I firmly believe that tabs are for web content and not browser/extension settings) but there's still some inconsistent hiccups with them. Will again look at it soon, I haven't tried to fix it in more than a year now. The fork is called Straitjacket - apt name for the insane ways websites work these days ;)

Awesome! Let me know if I can help with some beta testing at any point.

Thanks, I don't even have published binaries but the source is here. If you check it out using Git, just zip up the contents of the src folder, rename the file with a .xpi extension and it should install.

OK, I've got it working. I installed it on a fresh clean profile with no other add-on's initially. I had to restart the browser once after adding Straitjacket and then restart once again after I started trying to add new sandboxes, or the context menu options wouldn't show up or work to allow sandbox switching.

Unlike Priv8, with this version of Straitjacket it appears I have to have some content in the window in order to switch to a new sandbox from the tab context menu - it won't just assign a sandbox to an existing blank tab. Or maybe it tries and fails to assign a new sandbox to a new blank tab. However, if I go to the Tools menu and tell Straitjacket to start a new sandbox tab, that works.

Seems to be working quite well - I really like the settings dialog, that's so much better.

Let me know if I can help with some beta testing at any point.
Thanks, I don't even have published binaries but the source is here. If you check it out using Git, just zip up the contents of the src folder, rename the file with a .xpi extension and it should install.

Works well! I notice that it opens tabs opened from a contained tab in that same container which is functionality that was extremely crucial to me with regular Container Tabs. Thank you, I deeply appreciate your work.

If someone can please let me know the extension ID of CookieSwap and (if known) with which version of Pale Moon it started crashing, I can update the blocklist to prevent it from running and crashing people's browsers.

Thanks for the feedback :)
The behavior is all inherited from Priv8, which does the actual containerization. I've reworked it as an overlay extension with XUL dialogs instead of a webpage like configuration.

I've switched to using a clean new profile with Straitjacket, brought over my bookmarks and passwords and uBlock, eMatrix, PureURL, Sasuga and deCDN. What a great setup - what great tools we have, thanks to you and @vannilla and @RealityRipple and @UCyborg. Straitjacket with the Tools sub-menu makes it super handy to sandbox tabs. Will you be starting a separate extension thread for Straitjacket?

I will, once it's in a usable state. Was debating if I should do so now but it's unfinished and I hate doing incomplete work and patching it 'later'. Right now the challenge is to assign a website to a sandbox so that in future no matter how you open it (directly typing, bookmark, clicking, open in new tab) it will always open in that sandbox. And if you middle click on a link in a sandbox, it should open a new tab in that sandbox, currently it doesn't. If you've seen my other extension PermissionsPlus, it nicely integrates into the page info dialog permissions tab and the about:permissions page; I need to set the sandbox assignment similarly.
