New DNS Setting Confusion - Pale Moon 33.3.0

Unread post by LAR Grizzly » 2024-08-13, 16:21

In reading the Release Notes, I'm a little confused on the new DNS setting. After updating, I looked at the setting in the Preferences and the box is unchecked. To quote the release notes:
so if this is a concern for you and you wish to revert to our previous behavior, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> tab "Network", and uncheck "Prefetch DNS lookups".
Shouldn't the release note say:
so if this is a concern for you and you wish to revert to our previous behavior, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> tab "Network", and check "Prefetch DNS lookups".
I prefer to have the new (default) DNS setting. Should I check the box or uncheck the box?

The default in Pale Moon 33.3.0 is to prefetch, i.e. to have the box checked. If you want to make use of it, you should have the box checked.

Note that, apparently, uBO might override and disable this with its "prefetch" setting (see the PSA in the add-ons board), which is a bit confusing.

Thanks, Moonchild. I've disabled the setting in UCyborg's version of UBO and that let me keep the setting checked. I will check again when UCyborg releases his next version.

To wit, both uBlock and FoxyProxy will interfere with this. uBlock's setting can be changed to allow this but FoxyProxy won't let you change it.
