Probably, MTU related problem.
Try search google for keywords: mtu blackhole

Maybe, but if so then the AP's routing is really crappy. If your packet size is larger than the MTU size then the only issue is that it will fragment the TCP packets. They will still be delivered, just not very efficiently, unless your router is effectively broken in that respect.

Off-topic:
can this be solved by asking the OP to take a tcpdump on the offending device and observe the capture?
