Not saving many usernames & passwords

Unread post by videobruce » 2021-12-05, 15:24

v29.4.2.1
I'm considering switching over from FF v70 to Pale Moon, but I'm having trouble with Pale Moon saving many (not all) usernames & passwords. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it yet, but only a select few sites seem to be getting saved.
I did notice that the pop-up box to save those the UN & PW doesn't always appear when I try to login. One site, my bank is the best example and there might be a security problem with it also, but I'm not sure yet based on prior experience with a older version of FF where I had to upgrade from v56 to 70 to solve the login in problem. The error I received at the time had nothing to do with the problem (just like M$ and their lamo error messages).

And yes, I have all the 'save' options enabled in the 'Security' tab under Preferences.
Any questions please ask.

If you saved multiple entries for user name and password, you will have to either start typing or click-select.

Also, for security reasons, the default behaviour is to not insert user names and passwords without interaction to prevent credentials being stolen if a connection is hijacked. there, too, clicking or typing is required.

Same user name, password maybe different. Even after typing the first letter, on some logins the name or PW didn't come up. Some, not all.

Okay, this thread appears 'unresolved' and not particularly old.

First off, I used to post here (TheRealShane). I've still been using Pale Moon almost exclusively - almost since the beginning - but only within the last few days updated to the current version, i.e. when I could finally be arsed to find add-on replacements. After years of fighting Firefox (and Windows) and having to go through that shit again, I dropped out, so to speak. Well now I'm back - and it looks like I can rum PM on my Android phone again, too?

Anyway. Of the half-dozen sites I want my logon remembered by the browser, only one, isn't. Oh, it, along with the others, will stay logged on due to the cookie, but 'remembering' the details is not offered for this one site. It isn't in 'Saved Passwords' (and I'm a little surprised there's no option to add one manually).

I presume they're hashed.

Any suggestions? Are there add-ons that might conceivably cause this?

I don't have an answer for your actual issue, but the Android version is still discontinued.

And I'm surprised (come to think of it, not, seeing as how common it is) that if you're a long term Firefox user as you say, it never crossed your mind to search the addon site for an extension that does the trick. Clearly you didn't use Firefox during its first decade of existence when finding and using extensions was the norm instead of expecting features you want to be baked into the browser core.

Pale Moon not rembering passwords

Unread post by diode84 » 2022-01-28, 19:55

Hello
I have an Acer Travelmate, i3 running Xenialpup64 with Pale Moon 29.4.4.(64) The problem is it will not store passwords to sites.
It asks if I want to save passwords , I do but it does not save any.
Any ideas please.
Thanks

Maybe these articles will help a little.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/User_name_and ... remembered

Some sites, including many banks and a few other sites such as Yahoo Mail and Microsoft Passport, tell browsers not to remember passwords for visitors using autocomplete="off". This bookmarklet makes the browser ignore autocomplete="off" temporarily, allowing you to save passwords even on sites that use autocomplete="off".

Sounds a good idea. figaro's password manage is not in xenial PPM, any tips.

Do you have enough free space in the puppy save file?

Yes, it's a new install on almost bare xenial on a 15GB partition so no problems. No problems new install
with Firefox but I want to use Pale Moon.
The last Xenial64 on this Acer also would not remember passwords.
My Dell E6230 has same Xenial64 but has no problem remembering passwords.
Only the Acer has problems.

@diode84
I know figaro is built in to xenialpup 32,Did you right click and choose the personal section to see if it's there.?

if you visit the puppy forum.
https://forum.puppylinux.com/
There may be some password manager petfiles there.

Thanks Moonraker
My mistake, I did not notice that Figaro,s Password Manager 2 is already installed in xenial64. Never look in Personal category. I will give that a go.
It may solve the problem.
