Unresponsive Script on Web Page

Unread post by Kenaz » 2020-01-28, 22:58

Hello

This error message appears when you enter a search term on the website. I'm not sure now, but the problem should be present since version 28.8.0 or 28.8.1.
Pale Moon is up to date (v28.8.2). Starting the browser in safe mode will cause the same error. With Basilisk the same error.
There is no problem with Firefox and Opera on this web page.

Web page: https://www.duden.de/

Confirming, testing here with latest unstable - entering a search term and trying to open it makes the browser hang and consuming more and more memory. No Script message here, the browser just hangs and consumes memory.

Hmmm, Sorry but I can't confirm this reported behavior. I had Zero issues when using both Basilisk and Pale Moon with UBO and eMatrix enabled when searching on the site.

Probably because the problem script is being blocked?

Just Google analytics at least on PM.

I don't think it has anything to do with Google Analytics.

In one of my Pale Moon profiles I installed the add-ons "NoScript" and "Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on". https://www.duden.de already stops unresponsive when loading the script from duden.de (see scrennshot):

PM_Duden.de_unresp-script(with-noscript).jpg
PM_Duden.de_unresp-script(with-noscript).jpg (90.33 KiB) Viewed 1120 times

In a new virgin Pale Moon profile the same behavior with a unresponsive script:

PM_Duden.de_unresp-script(new profile).jpg

It's the same behavior in Pale Moon 28.8.3 and in Basilisk 52.9.2020.02.18.

In Firefox-ESR and Google Chrome, duden.de loads slowly, but loads completely.

Seems to be one of the pages for which you should use another browser for it, seems to be the only reliable option to view it properly - Just install either Brave/Vivaldi/Edge as secondary browser and use them for pages which fail in Pale Moon - problem solved :)

Tested again with the unstable and a new profile... No matter which scripts i block, the page hangs in Pale Moon. Perhaps you also can write to the webmaster/technical department of that page about the issue, perhaps they can bring somewhat light into this strange hang.

Blocking inline scripts with ublock seems to be a workaround.

I've done this a couple of times - the result was just frustration and a senseless waste of time and nerves. I'll never ever try.

I am already doing this when I urgently need information from a certain side. If I don't need, I think: FY :wtf:

But it would be my wish that I could visit such a everyday site like duden.de with Pale Moon :tired:

I'm not technical so 'xcuse my ignorance, but would Basilisk fill this role/solve this problem?

I can confirm that blocking inline scripts (with uBo) fixed the unresponsive script message. Page still took a while to load, though.

Not on the https://www.duden.de/ site; just tested in Basilisk and got the unresponsive script message. It appears the only two options are either blocking inline scripts or use another browser. Hopefully the website will fix their problem.

In the meantime until the fix takes place I recommend and will use https://de.pons.com/übersetzung/deutsche-rechtschreibung
