Can't play 4K 60FPS on Youtube?

Unread post by SGvagon » 2019-09-28, 19:20

Hello,

I have a new computer with Core i5 6500 (3.2 GHz) , 16 GB RAM, 250GB WD Blue SSD + 1TB Seagate on MSI B150M Mortar Arctic motherboard. I don't have dedicated GPU yet. I install Windows 7 PRO x64bit on it, but I have same problem as on my laptop. Palemoon can't play Youtube videos in 4K 60FPS , for example this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ . Video start stuttering and then totally stop (but playback continues) .
Normal 4K videos (24FPS) are OK on Youtube.

Is this problem is in that I don't have dedicated GPU yet, or in Palemoon? Or Youtube?

Thank you in advance.

NOT A BUG.

Seriously, Pale Moon does pretty damn well being able to play 4K videos at all without a discrete GPU! Keep in mind it's not a specialized media player; it's a web browser.

Plays just fine here. How are you expecting to play that stuff without a proper video card? 4K/60, really? I have a much older PC than yours, but there's a fairly recent Nvidia card inside that delivers.

Don't expect software to replace missing hardware.

back2themoon : Ok, so when I buy Nvidia GPU (I would like GTX 1050Ti or 1660) , I will try 4K 60 FPS again. Maybe i5 6500 have still weaker GPU than I excepted.

Works flawlessly for me. Linux Mint 19.2, Intel i5 4690, GTX 970, 8 GB RAM, SSD.

As back2themoon said, you need some real hardware to play beefy videos on an obese video-sharing site. A dedicated GPU will help with this; CPU-integrated graphics do not handle this kind of load well.

With my very poor graphic card Radeon R7 200 this video work well at 1440p /60fps (no stuttering).
At maximum resolution -2160p is not working but that's due to the Graphic card .

Resolutions over full hd on youtube are only vp9 (Glory to Google). Hardware decoding is only available from kaby lake+ cpu. Skylake did not hold out a little :)

Interesting, so it is literally a case of.. If you want insane resolution of video to play you need hardware capable of playing insane resolution of video. Good to know and thanks for the technical info Al6bus!
