PM 28 is real slow
Not sure this is just me, but after updating yesterday to PM 28 the browser is very slow and gets slower with each tab I open. Even with one tab open there is a delay before loading the page that isn't there in PM 27 and it seems the longer PM is open the slower it gets.
I'm still on Windows 7 btw and for now I've reversed back to PM 27 because of the quite severe slowness. For the record, PM is amazing!

Re: PM 28 is real slow
Ha! I know it! The same situation here. PM28 on 32bit is not usable. I return to 27 and everything is fine again. Will try 28 maybe in a few months. Or maybe simply migrate to other stable browser.

Re: PM 28 is real slow
I noticed a similar behaviour. I just updated to PM 28 on Windows 7 32bit and it looks nice, but quickly becomes slow.. very slow.
I noticed that the computer starts becoming slow and I notice that I get one of the two CPU cores running full.
I think something is hanging because:
- even after closing all windows and leaving the home page CPU usage of palemoon remains high
- under certain circumstances, even closing the browser leaves a palemoon process running at high CPU and I need to kill it from the task manager
A wild guess could be that a plug-ioin container crashes - I once got that message while killing it. ANyway something that is capable to survive not just a tab closure, but sometimes even the whole program closure.

Certainly not expected.closing the browser leaves a palemoon process running at high CPU
Maybe something here, Hang at exit?

Thats exactly my expierience too...- even after closing all windows and leaving the home page CPU usage of palemoon remains high

After reading here about first wave of "problems" i thought to try first a fresh portable version of Pale Moon 28.0.0
to see if browser plays well on my rig (Win 7 SP1 x86 with updates till Dec16 , intel C2D 7300, 4GB ram, SSD Samsung Pro 840 , Graphics GTX650 1GB Drv Ver. 9.18.13.2723)
which up to v27.9.4 had no problems what so ever ...
with v28.0.0 Portable 32bit (installed on ssd) running in safe mode, browsing is choppy, slaggish, browser freezes occasionally,
and i end up with application crash...

Re: PM 28 is real slow
Changing browser is not what I'm looking for, I'm using PM for many years and would like to use it for many more years to come. If this is on all 32 bit windows 7 machines, it might be something to look into.p0k3m0n wrote:Ha! I know it! The same situation here. PM28 on 32bit is not usable. I assume you checked with your extensions (by disabling them) and your security software? Malwarebytes for example is known to cause problems.

Yes I did, I'm not using Malwarebytes BTW, but like I said, PM 27 works like a charm, it's PM 28 that doesn't on my system.back2themoon wrote:I assume you checked with your extensions (by disabling them) and your security software? Malwarebytes for example is known to cause problems.

Stop playing hard to get: what security software are you using?

That's exactly why security software is a prime suspect.Jottum wrote:...but like I said, PM 27 works like a charm, it's PM 28 that doesn't on my system.

Popping in just to say, this is my experience as well with the x86 version. The x64 works fine.
Security software is Microsoft Security Essentials and Comodo Firewall.

Comodo, both for antivirus and firewall.satrow wrote:Stop playing hard to get: what security software are you using?

Re: PM 28 is real slow
So the common factors seen so far are: 32-bit version and Comodo Firewall/IS

Re: PM 28 is real slow
I can confirm there's an issue with Comodo and Pale Moon 28 x86; after installing what I consider to be a minimum AV install and a reboot, PM x86 ran and connected initially but soon began failing to connect to sites, even on refreshing those it had initially connected to with fresh/updated posts/articles. Sites with 'heartbeats' seemed to still be connected/refreshing until a manual refresh or opening a link in a new tab. Comodo's logs were empty, Windows logs contained a number of errors related to WMI and CIS/Comodo.
Re: PM 28 is real slow
That's interesting. On a 64-bit Win7 system running x64 PM v28 I've found no issues with it while running Comodo.
An odd conflict if true.

Re: PM 28 is real slow
As stated, mine was a minimal install but even though Comodo was uninstalled afterwards and the PC was rebooted twice, Autoruns checked etc., x86 still isn't working.
I've just updated another PC with PM 28 x86 and it's been working as expected for almost an hour now, no AV installed on it.
Rest assured, I've not given up on trying to get to the root of the problems reported with x86.

Re: PM 28 is real slow
Here also problems with 32-bit pale moon on 32-bit windows 7, but this system has never seen any security software (with the exception of windows build in firewall, windows defender is disabled).
It's an old hardware (only 2 cores and 2 gb ram), so page loading and rendering was never very fast, but the big difference from pale moon 27.9.4 to 28.0.0 is, that the user interface became very unresponsive, some examples:
I click to another tab and it comes to the top much time later.
I want to mark some text, press the mouse button at the beginning, release it at the end and have to wait until it got marked.
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down, the reaction comes much later.
The change of the mouse cursor shape dependent from the position is very slow.
Pressing ctrl-w to close a tab is very slow, even when i want to close an empty tab.
But when i repeat the same action it works less retarded sometimes "normal". It looks as if the uxp platform below pale moon has some kind of high level cache where it saves the last done actions that can be repeated fast but other actions have to be loaded into this cache before they can be done.
And it's not always. I can't give rules but it tends to happen more likely if the browser is running more time since last restart and/or if more tabs with pages (from more different hosts?) are loaded.
And sometimes the complete browser is hanging. Not only for a short moment like it happened in rare cases before 28, but for a long time with 50% cpu (i.e. one core 100%), so that i had to kill him with process explorer in different cases the last days.
But the main point is: there is NO security software involved.

Re: PM 28 is real slow
5 hours in and my PM x86 on the alt. PC (both machines are W7 x64 Pro, Intel Ivy/Nvidia) has lost connection. Similar to @karlkracher in that I had only a relatively small number of tabs open (for me!) and from just 8 domains.
I've just restarted PM in safe mode but won't be able to check again until I've caught up with some sleep.
