Gif Download no longer works

Unread post by nimanima » 2017-05-24, 01:58

Since today I can no longer download gifs that work.

https://giphy.com/gifs/BWLS56aXpfHtm/html5
This gives me the option "save video as", I entered the filename "tired" and saved. The only fileending that was suggested was gif. Ater saving I tried to open with Irfan View and got this:

Cannot read file. Inknown file format, empty file or file doesnn' exist. Unicode file-names please activate unicode PlugIn. Wstern European languages without diacritics usually worl without any.

A second gif I tried to download gav the same result. What is THIS? It worked without any problems till yesterday, and I have changed nothing in my Browser. Only thing I have changed yesterday was installing FinePrint that but should not have any influence on browser, It has nothing to do with browser.

If downloading GIFs from that particular website worked until yesterday, that means something on their side changed.

I didn't take a close look, but the downloaded "GIF video" actually isn't a GIF or a video, but an HTML file. So this file obviously cannot be displayed by any image viewer or media player. When I open this file in a browser, it shows a single frame from the video.
The same thing happens in Firefox, btw. In Chromium, a working MP4 video is downloaded instead.
