xul.dll keeps crashing

Unread post by k2366 » 2017-05-14, 18:08

Running version 27.3.0 on windows 7 x64 system with 8 mb ram. The browser will crash regardless of the site I may be on at the time and when I look at what caused the crash the culprit always seems to be this dll file.
What can be done to prevent this from continuing to happen?
I should mention that this was a fresh install on the system after a fresh install of windows following a disk clean using the program diskwipe.

SGvagon Why would the amount of ram be a problem?
My computers mobo can't hold any more than that. Never was a problem with my old x86 pc that had half that amount.

Think he was having a giggle, you mean 8Gb of RAM not 8Mb  ;)

The appcrash and report indicate 2 different crashes. Also, both of them indicate exception offsets that do not correspond to actual code points.

Can you please use the instructions in the howto section of this forum to capture a crashdump/minidump of the crashing browser, so I can see what's going on with the debugger?

I'll see if I can find any dump info.

Lumping all crashes that indicate xul.dll into a single thread might get confusing quick, because xul.dll is the monolithic library that Mozilla in their infinite wisdom decided to aim for -- it contains most of the entire code. So, it'll be important to check for at least the same exception code and if the exception offset is similar or the same. If not, then it's likely a different cause and would be better reported separately.

Re: xul.dll keeps crashing

Unread post by k2366 » 2017-06-02, 17:17

Turns out in my case it was my motherboard that was causing my issue. I kept getting BSOD errors that pointed to my video card, then after countless times trying to rectify the issue the PCI-E slot stopped working completely. I have since replaced the motherboard and no longer get any errors (BSOD) nor has Palemoon crashed.

The lesson I learned it's not always the program that is the problem.
