non-admin mouse context menu disabled

Post by DennisRGH » 2017-05-03, 19:48

Version 27.3.0 has the following problem.

The right click function (context menu) for Non-Admin accounts is disabled.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a policy restriction or bad browser config

It only happens with this latest version.

The previous version is fine, which is what I am using now.

So it must be something with the new version. I am tech illiterate, so cannot discuss much at all.

I think I will have to wait for the next release and hope it is fixed.

I surf the net using a non-admin account, btw, for extra security. That is how the problem became apparent. The context menu became disabled with the latest version while in the non-admin account. But it was not disabled when I switched to the admin account and tested.

I did a system restore to go back to the previous version of Palemoon, and everything was fine. So I downloaded the latest version of Palemoon again, hoping it would be ok, but the same context menu issue happened. I did another system restore and am using the previous version currently.

That is where everything is at right now.

Is nobody else having the same problem?

We did make a change in the latest version to fix custom context menus not working. So that is likely related to the problem you're having. However, that should not in any way be related to running in an admin account or not, unless it is one of your extensions in your normal account that causes problems here.

I'll ask the dev who worked on this to look into a potential issue on the browser side. Can you check if you have any extensions that change the context menu? Is it on all websites or just on specific sites?

Can you also check in the browser console (under web developer) if there are specific errors (marked red) thrown when you try to open the right-click menu?

Hello Moonchild,

I do not have any extentions. I just use the basic browser, as is.

The browser console does not show anything since I am not currently using the browser version that caused the problem in the first place. No help there.

However, when the problem was happening, it happened for all sites, if I recall correctly. The mouse context menu was just completely disabled for 27.3.0.

Wish I could be more help.

I know it's going to be annoying, but we need more information, so we need you to install the problematic version and get us all the information possible from it. This problem can't just "go away" in a future version if we don't know what the problem is.

I'm unable to reproduce this, and the dev who submitted the patch also can't reproduce it. So, there's something specific to your setup or profile. If you can easily reproduce it, then you can likely get us exactly the info we need. Will you do that for us?

You can use a portable version of it (in this case it might be enough - maybe).

Moonbeam

I did what you asked and installed 27.3.0.

At first it worked normal. But then the problem returned within minutes.

Using msn.com for an example site, I copied the debugger, console and inspector.

Here they are...It is a lot of info.....

Console first...

Re: non-admin mouse context menu disabled

Thanks for taking the time to post all that, unfortunately it won't help. What I was hoping to see would be a error that would appear in the console the moment you right-click to call up the menu. That doesn't seem to be the case, so something else is going on. What, is the big question.

(for the sake of keeping things concise, I've removed the debugger posts as that information won't be of any use).

And thank you for removing those posts.

I can still use Palemoon, just not the current version. Will see what happens with next update(s).

I also downloaded and installed K-Meleon 75.1 for fun. It works good so far. I used it for years before switching to Palemoon.

I also use Sandboxie, so there is a layer of security there, as well as surfing in non-admon account.

I am curious what you think of K-|Meleon. Or is that type of comment allowed on the forum, since it is a competing browser?
