PM Doesn't play soundcloud clips after update to 27.1.0

Post by gmeades » 2017-02-09, 22:22

I just updated PM to version 37.1.0 32-bit, and it seems the browser now isn't able to render sound clips from sound cloud as it had previously. here's a page with soundcloud clips I visited, with the soundcloud areas refusing to function as they had previously. http://www.guitarplayer.com/lessons/101 ... apes/61767

Thanks for looking into this... :-)

Plays fine for me here on Linux. Can you provide any additional information? How exactly is it refusing to function?

Play fine for me too on Windows 7x64 Pale Moon 27.1.0x32.
Here are the add-ons I made in a spare time. That was fun!

The soundcloud fields remain blank. There are no wave forms graphics showing and filling in the fields (see attached pic).
I'm running windows 7 64-bit.

These were rendering find just before the upgrade, I believe...
They also render and play fine on this machine in my other backup browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome).

What about clean profile/without addons?

Just opened the same page on my computer upstairs with PM 27.0.3 and it renders the clips and plays them just fine.
They worked fine before the upgrade, and stopped after I upgraded.

Let me figure out how to open up PM without addons and I'll give it a try.

Okay, I restarted PM with all addons disabled, and the clips were able to load and play on that page.
So, there's some addon that's not compatible with the new PM 27.1.0 upgrade...? That's interesting.
How do I troublshoot that, turn them on and test them one by one...?
Going through an enabling them one by one, restating and refreshing the page to see if I can find the culprit.

Please understand that add-ons need to be "let-fixed" to work with Pale Moon 27.1 -- if they still use old "let" expressions or blocks in their JavaScript, they will need those rewritten to modern ES6 use of the "let" keyword. That is likely what caused issues here.

[SOLVED]

I discovered the problem was caused by a Java Plug-in (Java 8 version 121 is installed on this machine).
When I disabled the plug-in, the Soundcloud clips render properly and play just fine.
When I enable the java plug-in again and refresh the page, the clips do not render and are not able to be viewed or played.
I can reproduce this repeatedly and reliably, so there's no doubt that it was Java that was causing the problem.

I also inspected the PM Add-on's on my other computer, and it does not have any Java Plug-in installed.

Simply changing the Plug-in's setting to "ask to activate" allows Soundcloud to work properly while still allowing any apps that may need Java to have access to it, should it be needed.

Thanks for letting me know to try it with Add-on's disabled which put me on track to finding the problem, and hence, the solutions..

Great browser by the way... my main browser ever since installing it (definitely faster and more stable than FF)...! ;-)
