Memory management issues in PM?

Post by incredibill » 2016-02-11, 21:55

Greetings!
New PM user here, currently have x86 26.0.3 installed. I happened to have two windows of PM open, each with 6-8 tabs open to various websites. I noticed in task manager that the PM process was using over a 1.5GB of memory (!).
Seems like a lot. I closed tabs in one window one at a time, with no appreciable change in memory usage, then closed that window. Usage dropped by 200m. Closed one at a time down to a single tab in one window, waited about 5 minutes and the memory usage was sitting steady at about 1.2GB until I closed that window to terminate the PM executable.
Again, new user, but suffered through all of the growing pains of FF as it evolved into a great product. I fired up FF 44.0, loaded the same pages into two windows and the usage is well under 1GB.
I did not see another thread about this topic, so figured it is worth a shot. Any ideas why PM is using significantly more memory than FF?

I appreciate all constructive replies.

We're aware of some issues with the memory allocator on Windows, causing performance problems and in some cases memory inflation. This will be addressed in 26.1 :)
