Welcome to the modern web. Web Applications are what you have to expect, it is wht the wb has been moving toward over the past decade or two.
Not sure what your complaint is about it, though. Web sites have moved forward, and so have the browsers.

Not every move is a "move forward". I'd totally donate actual money to a browser which blocks all "web applications" by default. This is virtual cancer IMO.

This really is too polarized of a stance to take. I hope you never use webmail, any sort of travel planner, online booking system, or most of the online shops out there, let alone fora like this one.
Locking this topic for setup of polarized argumentation that will undoubtedly spiral into unnecessary debate.
p.s. if you want a browser that blocks web applications then you can simply use a very old one... like ... say... Firefox 3.5
