Palemoon does not seem to be Itanium 2 compatible

Unread post by choppergirl » 2012-10-23, 22:05

This seems to be a 'latest Firefox code' thing, as Firefox (which I just upgraded to the latest version) no longer runs either (my older version ran fine).
Someone jack!@#%^# broke backwards compatibility somewhere.

I tried both the x32 and x64 version. The x32 version sort of runs in the x86 compatibility box, but hangs up or crashes soon after start.

Pale Moon is designed to be used on x86 or x86_64 processor architectures. Itanium is a different processor architecture that is certainly not guaranteed to run x86 or x86_64 applications flawlessly; quite a bit of code in the Mozilla code base will use advanced instructions, assembly code, and other low-level programming that may or may not be supported by your Itanium's compatibility layer. It's not "breaking backwards compatibility" as Itanium was never a supported architecture to begin with.
