GameGuard and other software interfering

Unread post by jcdenton2k » 2012-09-29, 11:11

I've also had these 'hanging' issues, even with my computer being lightyears ahead of any minimum or recommended specs for Pale Moon or otherwise.
I've narrowed the problem (on my end) down to 'GameGuard' that happens to be running when I'm playing Phantasy Star Online 2 (an MMO, Japanese-only but with an English patch).
GameGuard is notorious for interfering with anything and everything that runs alongside PSO2. It prevents/blocks Ventrilo/TeamSpeak from running as well as messing with anything else it can.

So far I've avoided the worst of the issues, the only problem has been that I can't browse the internet with GameGuard running (so far).
In my specific case, it causes the browser to hang and then when I close PSO2 (and GameGuard) it finally shows a dialog asking me if I want to 'stop scripts' on that page.

This isn't a bug report so much as a general info-dump to let other people know to check their computers for GameGuard, Akamai Network Services (malware), Pando Media Booster (also malware), or other such 'random' 3rd-party programs they may not be aware of.

Related Request:
I'd like to know if it would be possible to have two security-related features integrated into Pale Moon (and being optional to enable or disable at will).

-Autostop any unresponding scripts/javascripts on a page if they don't respond within X seconds (and let us choose the time we want to wait).

-Disable/suppress the 'are you sure you want to leave this page?' prompt that may appear with some websites. Commonly used by some advertisements on certain websites. I was a victim of a page that kept using/abusing that prompt by spamming it nonstop until I had to force-close Pale Moon, losing the work I had in progress. It wasn't any typical 'bad' website (porn, hax, warez, whatever) but just a standard forum that I'd usually browse and that was apparently compromised without anyone knowing about it.
----Of course, it would be helpful that if a page keeps trying to do the 'Are you sure you want to leave this page?' prompt, then consider it malicious and force the page/tab to close. Since the user would get that prompt primarily if they were trying to close the page/tab, then this would be desired behavior.

--I know that both of these issues may be related to JavaScript and beyond the scope of browser-specific optimizations.

--I also know that I can just use the 'NoScript' addon instead, but my concern is for those who aren't aware of NoScript and just use the browser as-is.

--I believe having both of these as an option would give Pale Moon a significant security-related advantage over other browsers.

You do realize that this is probably "by design" in GameGuard?
The other two you mention are notorious for interfering with networks because they saturate your bandwidth or NAT session table in your router.

Pando only bothers me when it is downloading a client or an update, that pretty much covers it.
