Just FYI, I made a recent optimized build of Thunderbird which can be found on the Work In Progress page

The build system has been completely revamped for Thunderbird, so this is a new build from scratch - it also seems to no longer be possible to use profile guided optimization with Thunderbird which hurts the potential optimization I was able to do before.
I may look into building it further with Visual Studio 10, instead, which offers better speed without PGO than v8 does.

No, it's not been abandoned, I've just been too busy with other things

I've used it as my main mail client back then it was first released. Never had a single problem with it!
