Pale Moon To Firefox Classic: Tutorial

Unread post by 11ryanc » 2014-09-06, 14:24

In this tutorial I will demonstrate how to make your Pale Moon browser setup, closely resemble classic Firefox, or version 3. Due to the very configurable User Interface of this browser, accomplishing this is fairly simple to do.
So let's get started!
Step 1. Get yourself a classic Firefox theme. There are quite a few available, but to name the few I know work properly you may have a look here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... firefox-1/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... irefox-3x/ (claims to be incompatible, however works perfectly fine as of v. 24.7.1), or my personal favorite http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4513
Step 2. Right click anywhere within the toolbar area on the top of the screen and check off "Menu Bar".
Step 3. Always show the Stop (X) button. Access right-click context menu again in main toolbar area and select "Customize". From there drag and drop a custom "Flexible Space" divider and place it between the Stop/Reload navigation controls Screenshot: http://prntscr.com/4k7kf9 (Line will be invisible after applying).
Step 4. Reinstate the old Add-ons manager. You can use this add-on to get the original Add-ons manager (NOTE: It was originally designed for SeaMonkey, however I can confirm it works great in PM): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamon ... n-manager/
Step 5. Classic Downloads Mnager. In Pale Moon 24 access the Tools Menu and select "Status Bar Options". Once there navigate to the Download tab and toggle "Use classic download window". Starting with the betas of the next gen release of PM 25x this can be enabled by simply just entering into main Options pane.
Step 6. Some additional GUI work. To make things a bit closer to Firefox you can, again access the Customize options followed by dragging and dropping a flexible space separator at the very top of the browser UI. Next add the round activity indicator at the top right. This was a default in Firefox up until version 3.5 I believe. You can also add download status to the bottom Staus Bar to behave like FF 3x. It is only visible while a dl is in progress. Screenshot: http://prntscr.com/4k7s1m
Step 7. Reinstate Save and Quit dialogue upon closing application. An example: http://prntscr.com/4k7ssv To do so follow this tutorial http://www.ampercent.com/enable-save-ta ... fox4/8773/
Step 8. Re-enable History dropdown button beside back/fourth nav controls. Use this simple addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ropmarker/
Step 9. Access View Source via classic view menu. Use this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search
Step 10. Open New Tabs via right click context menu https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... text-menu/
Step 11. Revert to original view image style: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... age-style/

That's about it. Enjoy your new classic Firefox browser
