Hardware failure: unexpected downtime

Post by Moonchild » 2011-12-17, 13:22

The HDD in the all-purpose home server that the forum runs on among other things is failing.
I'm keeping backups of all important data, of course, but I need to wait for a replacement drive.

There can (and probably will) be unexpected downtime if the HDD hangs and I'm not around to reset the machine until such time when I receive the replacement. There will be a short downtime after that to transfer data and swap hardware, as well, of course.

Reason: Unsticking - it's redundant now XD

Update: replacement hard disk has been installed - it's a slower one but seems to be in better working order; some spinup problems initially, hopefully it wasn't bumped by the postal service too hard. :eh:

Pulling out the older drive, kudos to Hitachi for making a drive that continues working even when there's something loose inside the enclosure :!:
