Contact Board Administrator

Post by pedro_deleon » 2026-04-16, 17:57

I registered years ago, and logged in today to post a browser related topic.
But then I realized I might not get replies, if my profile email address was old. It was.
So I attempted to update my profile.
I submitted my current email address, but the verification email never arrived. Neither did a second request.
I tested it, and confirmed it still works. (Its a secondary address)
So FAQ says if you have issues, contact a board administrator. It doesn't say how.
And I couldn't find a way. There seems to be no way, ESPECIALLY if the issue means you can't log in anymore. Like me.
And searching reveals many others have the same issue.

So I ended up registering a second time with new credentials.
Annoying. Is this INTENTIONAL? If not please fix this in FAQ.

Welcome back:)

We have Rules: https://forum.palemoon.org/app.php/rules
Accounts

Please don't create more than one user account. Only one account per person!
Regardless of what reason you may think you have to create multiple accounts, doing so as a single person runs the risk of all those accounts being closed. #
If you have been (temporarily or permanently) banned, do not create "alt" accounts to circumvent your ban or cool-down period. If you wish to discuss your user state on this forum, e-mail staff about it using the general forum e-mail address.
If you have had your account previously deleted (either through idle purge, by request or through administrative action), you may only re-register using the same name.
Any posts made on "alt" accounts for banned users are subject to being removed and completely ignored by staff and/or the developers. #
From time to time, we may purge accounts of inactive users. We will normally make an announcement when such a purge is about to happen, and usually idle purges are performed on user accounts that have seen more than 2-3 years of inactivity (have not logged in). You are not required to make any posts to keep your account active, but you do need to log in using your username and password to prevent being purged.

We do these purges for a few reasons, chiefly among which:
To keep database sizes under control, and keep the forum running efficiently
To prevent personal information that is not in use by active users from being unnecessarily stored on our server
To prevent identity theft if your e-mail address is compromised
Purges are irreversible. If your account has been purged due to inactivity, then the only way to become an active contributor on the forum again is to register a new account. #
Please do not use temporary/disposable e-mail addresses to register on this forum. It's not allowed and if brought to our attention the account will be disabled without warning.

"We have Rules"

Well that may be, but I'm not seeing any remarks on the website protocols that left me no choice but to take that step.

Namely, the site failed to send (TWICE) the promised validation emails when I sought to update my old account.
So after that, the old account would no longer let me login.

And then the site provides no means to address profile edit complication, via contact with an administrator.

If that becomes available -- I didn't see a response from you on that point --- then I will use that means to arrange for the old account to be closed.

Assuming you haven't done that already ! :-)

Perhaps you missed the FAQ's, specifically the top Announcement; https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=1

"Remain active to keep your account."

So, I looked around... and what exactly is the "general forum email address"? I can't find it.

If one lost ones account due to a purge, and/or ones old email, one might not remember ones forum handle to re-register as the exact old name. How is one to proceed at that time?

How is being constantly logged in treated when it comes to being active (but making no posts) and not actually logging in with username and password?

""Remain active to keep your account.""

That was not the issue. My old account was Active this morning. I logged in, and then posted elsewhere, as I noted.

The issue was that the site protocols FAILED after I then attempted to update my contact info on my (then) CURRENT account.

And when that attempt short circuited due to the site failing to send me a validation email (twice), my prior account was rendered dead in the water.

I sent you a private message right away in case you made a typo in your new e-mail address. But you didn't respond to it.

I checked the log and the problem is this:

Code: Select all

  Waiting for protocol to start...
<-- 554-mail.com (mxgmxus011) Nemesis ESMTP Service not available
  <-- 554-No SMTP service
<-- 554-Invalid DNS PTR resource record
The mail server was just moved to a new host. I'll look into getting the PTR record set for that host, but it may take a while since I have to have support do it for me.

Thank you for those updates, Moonchild.

I DID get a note from the forum when I reregistered yesterday with user ID 'pdl 54.'

But I did not get your email note inquiring about an address error. If that was to my old address (domain ecentral), I would not have gotten it.

I've also not gotten email notifications for these forum responses at my new address (domain post.com) .

Part of it should be solved now (IPv4) mail.com is just a bit overzealous about checking mail senders.

Howdy.
I just received (noon USA mountain time Fri) a Website notification email that my original account (from 2021) remains unvalidated, but it contained the validation link that I didn't receive yesterday after attempting to update my profile with a new address. It uses the requested email address (domain post) and not the domain from the new account (domain gmail).

However, if I now validate that older account I would have two accounts. Same user IDs except one appends "54".
So, with whom do I correspond to proceed and validate the older account, and then purge the new one with 54?

Thanks!
pieter (old and new)

If you've validated the old one, I'll merge the new one into it. no problem.

I will assume that none of the 'features' belonging to the new account will be retained.
Ie, keep old user ID (no 54), keep updated email (domain post), keep old pw (not new one ending ***26). Etc.
Just to be clear.

And thank you for your assistance.
I'm sure you have more important things to attend to. :-)

Yes, *54 has been merged into the old account (with the new e-mail address).
