Weird logouts
I was forcibly logged out once yesterday, and I thought it was that time of the year again. No sweat, right? Just logged in (after remembering my PW on the second pass).
Well, today I was logged out again, twice, and then once again in the middle of clicking on a red sub-forum. Are there any known issues with the site, or anyone else experiencing the same even?
I haven't changed anything on my side, although it could perhaps be a VPN issue if it should be only me it pertains to.

Re: Weird logouts
I encounter this issue too, but weirdly only in desktop Pale Moon. I never had a forced log-out from this forum in mobile. I rarely use a VPN (which is a simple L2TP or OpenVPN from VPN Gate)

Re: Weird logouts
Strange, I'm logged into the forum from 2 Pale Moon desktops, and I can't remember getting logged out more than once a year or so, just checked now and it is fine for me

Re: Weird logouts
The forum errs on the side of caution and will log you out rather than letting a session continue if there is a failure of any of the checks performed. This can sometimes happen in case of a resubmission of your session ID from a different IP, for example, and the browser otherwise not presenting the correct markers. It may, in fact, be the forum protecting you from an active replay attack.
In case it is a matter of confusion, though, try explicitly logging out sessions by removing autologin keys in the UCP, logging out, clearing all cookies for forum.palemoon.org, then logging back in.

Re: Weird logouts
I am typing this post on my desktop tower computer and I cannot remember the last time I was forcibly logged out of this site. My ISP is Comcast too. If I do get logged out, it usually happens when I get a prompt telling me the system is down for maintenance. Then I have to log back in.

Re: Weird logouts
Thanks ya'll. Some good info here. I think I can mark it as solved with MC's post, since it seems to vary wildly for each. I haven't had another logout, so all's good. Most likely just a one off thing.

I tried these exact steps yesternight in my Pale Moon and nope, I just got a forced log-out this night...Moonchild wrote: ↑2026-03-28, 09:28In case it is a matter of confusion, though, try explicitly logging out sessions by removing autologin keys in the UCP, logging out, clearing all cookies for forum.palemoon.org, then logging back in.
I'm not sure if it matters but I have third-party cookies only accepted "from visited".

I do not know if this matters, but the default setting is "Always"" and this is the setting I use. Since you changed the setting "From visited", try setting it back to "Always" for awhile and see if you encounter the forced logged out problem again.

Re: Weird logouts
The only times I've seen logouts (other than logging out myself) has been when clearing cookies or explicitly clearing the session keys server-side in a maintenance window. Otherwise I'm never logged out, regardless of being on Pale Moon, brave (on mobile/tablet), at home or away. So I'm not sure what would trigger it for the people who experience this.

Re: Weird logouts
One thing has come to my mind, I wonder if @Gemmaugr has a live bookmark of an Atom feed in this forum (I have "New posts" and "Announcements")? Since that will always load on first start-up of the browser, it might be possible that it's somehow doing an HTTP request without using a cookie sometimes in that brief window, which results in my stored cookies getting overwritten (since phpBB always sets a cookie on first visit)... Just a random guess. Now that I think more about it, I've had this exact same issue of getting logged out randomly in the rpmo too, and I am also subscribed via live bookmark to a few feeds there (MoonchildProductions organization and Basilisk application repo). In a fresh profile it looks like rpmo sets a CSRF cookie on first visit.

I've set it back to "Always" and after I redid Moonchild's steps I encountered a forced logged out again... Definitely not that one it seems. Re: Weird logouts
It is kind of difficult to test a "random theory", but you can always make a clean new profile. This will not destroy your present profile, but you can test the new profile and see if the problem still persists.jobbautista9 wrote: ↑2026-03-29, 16:20

If the clean new profile works without seeing the forced logged out, then you will know there is something in your old profile causing the problem. The only drawback, if your old profile really is old "age wise" and you have "lots" of changes in it, then finding the problem in the old profile will be like "finding a needle in a haystack" if you get my drift.

Re: Weird logouts
What about the "Exceptions - Cookies and site data" section in preferences. I have an "https://forum.palemoon.org" entry set to "Allow". It always keeps me logged in.
