Dead boards

Post by Mæstro » 2025-12-31, 22:05

More than one board here has seen literally no activity in over a year, another virtually none. Listing them from most to least active:
  1. Localisation. But for a single post asking about using Hunspell as dictionaries from last year, which could have gone in Browser Support, this board has been unused since April 2024. I presume most actual discussion about developing language packs takes place in the repositories. We have meanwhile had more abstract conversations about localisation (such as whether to admit Anglicisms) elsewhere.
  2. Tutorials. No activity since November 2024. It would appear that we, as a community, have simply lost interest in posting such guides. In my case, I know I contribute any instructions I might have now within a thread, typically in a support board, where they would be relevant.
  3. Ambassador. Not only has it been unused since January 2023, but the final post there notes that the extension has been abandoned by its developer, and nobody has shown interest in adopting it.
In the interest of keeping the board tidy, even in a small way, and in the spirit of ‘out with the old’, I would like to propose these three boards be archived as read-only, like the Binary Outcast or XP ones. It would mean three fewer places to look for spam and better reflect our message board’s actual activity patterns. It would be a small way to welcome 2026 here, but I can think of no better subject for what might be my last post here in 2025.
Life is a fever dream Mæstro would enjoy.
All posts 100% organic. Ash is the best letter.

I don't think either localisation or tutorials is in a position to be archived just because there has not been much activity recently. Both are still valid and current for the project.
Ambassador is indeed for all intents and purposes no longer actively in need of a dedicated board.

I love researching and writing tutorials, but there haven't been a lot of things that require a lot of steps and detailed instructions the past few years. But I do have a good tutorial on how to use ProtonVPN free on any GNU/Linux distro with wireguard, the Linux kernel's in-built modern secure networking system. I think it could be of benefit to some users, I should write it up soon.

Also, as we'll be needing to defeat more integrated AI that's going into our OS's and snooping on our online activities, I think there could be an increased need for good tutorials going forward.
