Subscribing to Forums, also notifies about all topic posts
Hello - this is a bit esoteric but here it goes.
I've subscribed to a few forum sections (not topics), that are not included in the "New posts" function. The Off-Topic section, for example.
After subscribing to that forum section (option at bottom of page), I received the "New topic notification - "Off-Topic" email, telling me about the new "PM is just as bad as IE - apparently" topic. Which is great, since it's exactly what I wanted.
The problem? Email notifications will keep coming for single posts in that topic. One could say "since you are subscribed to the forum", you are also subscribed to everything within", even though the wording in not all that clear. I subscribed for topic, not post notifications.
So, I would then imagine to be automatically subscribed to all new topics within. But this is not the case. The notifications keep coming without being subscribed to the Forum topics. The trick attempt to subscribe then unsubscribe doesn't work.
So, what I'm asking here is the ability to be notified about new topics alone - or at least have the ability to unsubscribe from them afterwards.
Thanks

A halfway to keep you sane in the interim might be to unsub from each of the notified topics as you read them?

As mentioned, this doesn't work:
I am getting notifications from topics without being subscribed to them. Only subscribed to the Forum they belong to.I would imagine to be automatically subscribed to all new topics within. This is not true. I use New posts function each time I visit the forum and it always shows Off-topic posts if there are any.back2themoon wrote: ↑2025-02-12, 16:20forum sections (not topics), that are not included in the "New posts" function. The Off-Topic section, for example.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!

Off-topic:
That's strange, because Moonchild confirmed it specifically. Perhaps it shows subscribed topics only, even if in the "Off-Topic" section?

I'm not subscribed to any topic at all.

I previously excluded off-topic and some other public boards from search indexing, but that's no longer the case.
People in off-topic behave well enough to not treat it specially for search indexing anymore. So you can thank the community as a whole for being well-behaved

Ok, that solves it for Off-Topic. Well, not really since odd subscription behaviour remains, but "New posts" is adequate.
How about other sections, such as the rest of The Bulletin Board?

Well obviously that previously stated has been changed, as that restriction was lifted. ;P
And no other parts of the forum were treated specially (aside from naturally restricted boards like for moderators etc.)

Re: Subscribing to Forums, also notifies about all topic posts
Sorry, you've lost me a bit there. The issue here was that subscribing to forums, also sent you email notifications for every new post within all of its sub-topics, without even subscribing you to said sub-topics. The only way to stop this, is to unsubscribe from the forum. I assume this has not changed.
Instead, you are saying that now "New posts" encompasses the entire forum? (naturally restricted boards aside)

As for adding a whole subscription method for "just new topics", that really isn't something I can do. I'm not a phpBB dev. I can tweak some things but not that.
