‘Pale Moon for Linux’ page redirects to home page

Unread post by Mæstro » 2023-02-24, 22:39

While helping another user, I could notice that our Linux page redirects to the home page. This happens whether using Main > Pale Moon Linux Site, Download > Pale Moon > Pale Moon for Linux or using the address bar. Is this new behaviour deliberate? I know that the download page was recently changed to embrace the Mac and FreeBSD betas. If so, may I suggest that the navigational entries to the former site be removed?

It's deliberate.
The download page is now your one stop shop for Windows Linux Mac and FreeBSD. The Linux site itself is no longer relevant and the few bits of additional info there will eventually end up on the developer site.

Thanks for reminding me the menu entries should be removed.

Hello, Monchild.

Is it possible that as a side-effect of consolidating the download pages for Windows, Linux, MacOS and FreeBSD, the manual installation instruction for Linux has been lost or at least become inaccessible?
At least I can no longer find the steps of manually integrating Pale Moon into the Linux application menus. (No matter which desktop environment, xfce, Mate, Cinnamon, whatever).

What I have in mind is a step by step instruction very similar to this blog post: Installing Pale Moon for Linux Manually.
It used to be accessible via https://linux.palemoon.org/help/installation/. However, now it only gets redirected to https://www.palemoon.org/.

That instruction was very useful when installing Pale Moon (systemwide) on a Linux system for the very first time from the .tar.xz installation package.

Regards,
Karl

I've worked on adding the 2 major Linux docs to the developer site (after converting content to the format it understands)
It should go live in a day or so automatically.
I forced an update just to be sure it all works. https://developer.palemoon.org/docs/linux-installation/

Probably an accidental HTML character encoding issue?

Fixed. Will update automatically over time on the server.
