Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
Hey folks,
I'm just curious; would y'all be interested in me adding the option to enable markdown formatting in posts on the forum in addition to bbcode (which is used now)?
This would allow you to use basic MD formatting to structure your posts (inline code, code blocks, horizontal rule, bold/italic/strikethrough/sub/super) but would make the forum code more complex and may not work 100% with every old post.
I'm asking since MD is very broadly adopted by now.

Sure, why not
If it's not hard to implement/maintain.

I never liked markdown's syntax to be honest, so I'm a bit against this just for that.

It would be in addition to the existing, not a replacement.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
I just hope it encourages people to linkify their posts for better aesthetics instead of posting bare URLs when including links.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
Linkification won't be an option in MD formatting. This is just for basic MD markup.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
I am not a fan of markdown. If you are to do anything I think most of the format buttons just need their text lables back like 3.1 and older had.
That might solve some problems with bad posting.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
I'm on the fence, leaning towards no only because of the off case where special characters end up being accidentally treated as MD formatting by the parser. But for me this is a minor concern.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
I'm on the No end.
They way I look at it, as a user, is that the forum, phpBB, is "clean", the existing tools are sufficient (even providing more then most other places), & are these new tools really going to provide worthwhile benefit?
So why muddy the waters?
(Heh, I don't even use the existing tools - correctly.
Can't imagine what I'd do with new ones .
See that, this comment probably should have been in an "offtopic" block - but, oh well.
As far as hot link creation, Copy URL Plus is probably in
ca-archive.
But then I didn't see it PM/addons/ so, it is not supported... & won't work some time in the future...)

I don't even know what you are talking about.

Re: Allowing markdown formatting on the forum?
No thanks. Font formatting can result in ugly and sometimes illegible messages.
