How do I add an Excel spradsheet as an attachment?

I want to add an Excel spreadsheet as an attachment to a post. But when I try to add it, I get a message saying 'ERROR Invalid file extension". I tried both the current .xlsx and the old .xls suffixes, and got the same message.

So what is the procedure for adding an Excel spreadsheet, which the readers can download if they want it?

Why don't you just archive it (e.g. 7z, rar or zip)?

You have to zip it - we only allow certain file types to be attached directly for safety reasons.
