Not the case, just displaying an ad will generate revenue, CPM = cost per thousand.
There is also CPC = cost per click, and CPA = cost per action.

rabnbeinn, thanks for responding. However, could you explain exactly the 3 Cs? Does clicking on an ad produce more revenue? If I click on an ad on Yahoo! does Yahoo! get more revenue than my just going to the page? Thanks.

What does this have to do with this thread's topic.. I think if you want to discuss how Ads work you should create a new thread or a moderator should split this thread off.

Also, seeing as the type of Anti-adblock used that spawned this thread has changed to a much less aggressive in-house method that can serve the same ends this thread may need to be locked.

Then what is the point of disabling the ad blocker if simply seeing the ads doesn't make any income for Pale Moon?

If ads aren't displayed, they will also (naturally) never be clicked on
There is a (very) small amount paid per 1000 views; in comparison to what is paid per click, that is very little, but even without any clicks at least it's something. Most of the revenue generated is from actual clicks by people interested in checking out what the ad is for, though.

I suppose, for those of us who can't code to save their life but will still like to contribute a little, one or two small clicks each time we visit wouldn't be the end of the world....

Malvertising isn't the only reason why adblockers are popular. Another reason why ad blockers are popular is because of all the data mining and privacy invasion.

This is a major issue for me. One of the reasons I use PM is because of the ability to minimize such issues either via native browser features or critical add-ons.

But I will probably also soon make a significant donation equivalent to what I would guess is years worth of viewing ads that pay fractions of one US cent per view. I have always vastly preferred that product funding method to the trendier surreptitious version associated with online ad networks.

Yeah I really want to be able to donate, but I never have the money for it. hopefully when I'm not so dependent on others and the project doesn't die off by that point, then I could probably donate on a regular basis.

This hasn't been a hobby for years. I make enough, or rather I should say I MADE enough until Google decided to cut deep into the adsense because I refused to censor our users on the forum, and it's been whittling into nonexistence since.

Just curious, what did Google want you to "censor"? This isn't a pornographic site, and if vulgar language on the forum is an issue you could star it out, no?
