Moving the forum to a different host.

Unread post by Moonchild » 2017-02-14, 20:41

Thanks to the generous sponsorship offer of Evolution Hosting, I'll be able to move the forum to a more dedicated, DDoS-protected, and central (for the internet) location in Montréal, Canada.
This should ensure availability of the forum even if other services are unavailable, and make it a bit more robust against abusive traffic.

At the same time I'll be updating the server software to a later version of the OS, database server and web server.

Expected downtime for proper migration of all files and posts will be about 6 hours but may take up to a day, and currently planned for this coming weekend (18-19 Feb 2017).

Aand.. we're back.
Had to hack phpBB because they've apparently been breaking administration with 3.1.10 out of paranoia, preventing me from changing necessary configuration

Please let me know if things are broken. All sessions had to be wiped and I changed the cookie realm when I was troubleshooting the issues, so you'll be logged out initially.

As an aside, we should now also be IPv6 capable.

It seems the forum cannot be accessed via HTTP. I assume that HTTP should redirect to HTTPS, but the browser just downloads some 57 byte binary file instead.
I still have an old bookmark saved that points to the HTTP address, so it took me quite a while to realize that the forum is back online. ;)

Yes, something wrong is going there. I hope it will be fixed soon.

Fixed. It was trying to serve HTTP/2 responses over plain HTTP which browsers in general don't understand.
