Why I switched Adblock back on
I had a good will to support PM despite hating ads in any shape or form, so I disabled Adblock on the domain few months ago. It makes browsing the forum pain in the ass, because everything loads noticeably slower (and when you're used to completely ad-free browsing, it's very annoying), but even so, I was willing to live with it. Not anymore though: today after opening some random thread a sudden burst of extremely loud music freaked the living shit out of me. It took me a while to figure out what happened. It was an ad at the bottom of the forum. I'm sorry, I am not having this. That's way over any line I was willing to draw.
Not like I expect you to care, just saying it aloud.
If there's a way to send a donation directly, I might do that in future. From now on, Adblock has no exceptions for any site anymore and will remain that way. Ads will simply never change.

I've never seen an ad, here, throwing audio, but I won't deny something I have no evidence to disprove it.
The donation has always been available.

Re: Why I switched Adblock back on
I can confirm that advertisements do appear here on this forum which i have noticed when i have disabled my adblocker.however everyone has bills to pay and pale moon cannot exist on fresh air alone so in that regard it does not bother me.

Re: Why I switched Adblock back on
There are ads on every Pale Moon site.. But normally only at the bottom. Though on the forums I think there is one at the top when not logged in but one that stays at the bottom when you are.
The kinds of ads that are on the Pale Moon sites I don't have an issue with.. There is with rare exception only one and it is a quiet text or maybe image banner at the bottom never in the middle of content. So, I am fine with it.
As the developer of Adblock Latitude.. My stance in general is.. If you want to support as site that has a non-intrusive ad scheme.. Then unblock ads on that site.. Else, block away!
As a member of the Pale Moon Project.. I ask you if you would unblock on Pale Moon sites because it does help the project but if not.. That's cool too..
As speaking for strictly my self personally? I am really not bothered with what you do with adblocking as long as you are happy and it doesn't affect me.

Sorry to hear it gave you such a start. Adsense has a very strict policy against this kind of ad behavior, and I certainly don't want this kind of thing to happen either (which is why I stick with reputable ad networks even if it may not pay the most) but it's possible that one slipped through the cracks - I'm sure it's been reported and taken care of already.Octopuss wrote:extremely loud music freaked the living shit out of me
Well, I do care about not giving people shocks. But as far as blocking goes? That's still entirely up to you -- i would prefer it if you didn't to allow some compensation for running the forum and websites, but as said by Tobin, if you block ads, that's cool too.Octopuss wrote:Not like I expect you to care, just saying it aloud.
Of course there is. We have a donations and support page with details, we have a donation button on the home page, etc.Octopuss wrote:If there's a way to send a donation directly, I might do that in future.

There may be a policy against it, but it probably isn't really enforced because Google wouldn't benefit from enforcing their policies.Moonchild wrote:Sorry to hear it gave you such a start. Seriously, did you even read past the first sentence? They do enforce these policies because it is actually in their best interest not to piss people off.half-moon wrote:There may be a policy against it, but it probably isn't really enforced because Google wouldn't benefit from enforcing their policies.Moonchild wrote:Sorry to hear it gave you such a start. Re: Why I switched Adblock back on
The topic solely relied on an ad that was also involving audio, nothing I've ever seen/heard before.Moonraker wrote:I can confirm that advertisements do appear here on this forum which i have noticed when i have disabled my adblocker.however everyone has bills to pay and pale moon cannot exist on fresh air alone so in that regard it does not bother me.
Yet, we do tend to have some users that won't disable their adblock for whatever reason due to paranoia of malware. Alas, we can't convince them to do it, but some of us would like to support great sites like Palemoon, and others alike, and leave the adblock off for them. (Of course, everyone has said it above my reply, we respect your decisions regardless)

I actually did read the first sentence, but I'm just pointing out that if they really enforced their policies then these kinds of ads wouldn't be so common.Moonchild wrote:Seriously, did you even read past the first sentence? Re: Why I switched Adblock back on
That's exactly the issue here: they aren't common at all. They are also against their policies so hitting one of these is extremely rare and will be dealt with when reported. I should know, I've been a publishing partner of them for many years now. I also never block ads here, myself, and never ran into any of these types of ads.half-moon wrote:if they really enforced their policies then these kinds of ads wouldn't be so common
You just seem to be convinced that they don't enforce their policies...

And I'm not being hostile, sorry you feel that way. I'm speaking from experience, and feel i have to correct you in this case; if that correction is seen as being "hostile" towards you, then you misunderstood my intention.

Re: Why I switched Adblock back on
I think sending €5 might be way more than the ads will ever generate per every 100 active forum users. In fact, let's do it now (and I won't have to think about Adblock again too).
