Insufficient information for blocked plugins

Post by x-15a2 » 2015-11-17, 13:01

Pale Moon Version: 26.0.0b3 (x86)
Windows 8.1

In Add-ons Manager\plugins, I'm told that my version Java is known to be vulnerable and should be updated. I click Update Now, and am sent to http://blocklist.palemoon.org/info/?id=p906 with the message " This Add-on to your browser has been blocked." At this point, there is no information provided as to how to obtain the Java update. Is this the intent of the Update Now button? Is there a better way to quickly find this and other plugin updates (other than using a search engine or having someone supply the link here)?

EDIT: I'm at a location where I only have access to PM 26, so I can't test this issue in a production version of PM, so this post may need to be moved to a different area on the forums.

It's something that needs to be updated on the server side but isn't specific to this beta. What ultimately needs to happen there is that for known Mozilla IDs, you are forwarded to Mozilla, and for known PM IDs we would serve you some specific information. I just haven't gotten around to doing this yet.

Of note: this is the Mozilla information page: https://blocklist.addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p906
Of course, this "conveniently" tells people to use the plugin check page for plugins which is not available for us.

Should be as simple as a straightforward PHP redirect for extensions at least.
Tobin, maybe you can lend a hand there? You've done stuff like this for the add-ons site.

Plugins probably need to be served by us.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I appreciate that. I just got onto a VPC and ran 25.7.3 and (as noted) got the same results so this is not βeta specific. The solution sounds pretty resource intensive, hopefully Tobin will find an effective means of implementing the change described.

Thanks!
