This board has appeared in my dreams

Post by Mæstro » 2026-01-20, 14:27

Has anything especially to do with this browser or the XUL project ever appeared in your dreams?

Last night, I dreamt that I was browsing the Browser Support board when I encountered someone who was apparently struggling against an extension so buggy that NoScript appears in comparison like a paradigm of stability. I believe the extension’s purpose was something like Scrapbook X with additional features for exporting and modifying pages. The extension developer’s name was Giardia, like the protozoan. He described what was happening as a result of using the ‘nightly nightly nightly…’ (so many ‘nightly’s that it overflowed off the screen if viewed in the add-on menu) build of his XUL extension, distinguished by the version number ‘N·N·N’, recommending to use the stable version instead. Giardia and Moonchild had a peculiar conversation about the virtues of XUL extension design, where Giardia appeared surprisingly receptive to the advice he was being given.

Not the PM forums, however for the last month I have been dreaming that I was using my laptop.
Several times at night when the mouse stops working, I wake to realize I don't actually have a mouse in my hand.
The room is dark and I realize that I"m dreaming.
Go figure.

Seems someone ate too much before they went to sleep. :P

That's sometimes how weird dreams happen. :D

I will say yes, and especially when I was more active on the project. It ranges from dreams that we made some major breakthrough, dreams that Google was forced to divest Chrome and we somehow benefitted, to nightmares about being banned for not contributing enough, or nightmares that Pale Moon was shut down for some reason. I haven't dreamed about it much in a while, though.

I did more recently out of nowhere dream about working on UXP again and trying to solve problems, though. And it was after thinking about missing working on this stuff.

25 or so years after I started my company, I made a long time friend a partner. Whenever we would run into a problem that we couldn't solve in the office, he would tell me to go home and sleep on it. Every time I would wake with a solution to whatever the problem was.

Not on this board. My experience was with "lost time". I'll explain below and this happened to me about two weeks ago.

Every now and then I get over tired because I stay awake for long stretches of time. Thirty (30) hours or more. When this happens, even though I am dog tired, I go to bed, but I cannot fall asleep.

So I turned on my computer and decided to play one of my sleep videos on my desktop tower computer with external monitor. I have set the monitor's screen to go "dark" (blank) after 10 minutes of time. Both computer speakers will play sound for 50 more minutes and then the computer will go into suspend mode. Result, now more sound.

I chose this sleep video below. I waited 10 minutes until the external monitor's went "dark", but the sound would continue playing. I then got into bend at 11:00 PM, tried to relax and concentrate on the speakers sound of "snow falling".

I waited for what I thought was 20 minutes of time and I still felt wide awake. So I decided to get up and try and different sleep video. But when I got out of my bed, I got a (pardon the pun) "rude awakening". When I looked at the digital clock on the night stand table, the time was 5:17 AM.

Somehow I fell asleep for around 6 hours and didn't realize I was actually sleeping. For me, it felt like I never went to sleep. Hence, "lost time".

Btw, I have had some dreams too friggin weird to talk about in public.

And ironically I have never been on what people consider drugs to make matters weirder. IE, mushrooms, weed, never done any of that or anything similar.

And yet some of the dreams i have had have been really weird.

Of course if you eat too much before sleeping, that can also cause that I suppose.

I have also abstained from any and all drugs, as well as alcohol and tobacco, all my life. It makes statements like that in my signature or what a friend recently told me even more endearing:

One thing though, do you drink Kombucha? It does technically have fermented stuff in it, but a very low amount usually.

GTS synergy has like so little fermentation, that if it had any alcohol, it would be so little, that you would throw up before you got even got a little bit drunk. :P

I drink this and flavored teas.

Technically anything with caffeine is a drug, but you know what I mean when I say I don't do drugs.

I am not talking about those two things

Frontier naturals has awesome green raspberry tea. :)

I have had it a few times before in my life, as an aid to sleep which had been recommended to me instead of as an ordinary beverage. I do not avoid meals cooked using alcohol where it boils off, and I take part in communion at church when I am able to attend. All this is to say that, while I tolerate alcohol’s incidental presence in traces, I have never deliberately sought to drink alcohol.

Traditionally, coffee, tea, cocoa, alcohol and tobacco are considered luxuries (in German, Genußmittel). They are enjoyed for their flavour.

^This.
People are too eager to try and apply black and white labels to everything. I indulge in coffee and cocoa, and on rare occasions in alcohol (for the flavour and to take an edge off). Does that mean I use it as a drug? No. Would I use substances that aren't actually something to enjoy and are only taken for the psychoactive effects? Also no, unless prescribed by a physician, which has not happened (so far, anyway). Many, many things can be labelled as drugs (or as poison, for that matter) if you overindulge. Does that mean you should avoid it outright? Not necessarily.

By the way: Even water is lethal if you overdo it.

Yeah...

There was some "genius" who came up with the idea of a water drinking contest...

And as anyone can guess, some people died.

:skull:

I don't know if you have a skull emoji, but that is appropriate for this context.

:P

Here s one example I found by doing a simple search on duckduckgo

Sheesh... and oof...

I don't know who specifically had this idea, but man was it bad

It seems like a lot of people here have abstained from doing drugs, which is a good thing. I can't say the same about myself. Young Basilisk-Dev REALLY liked to party.
I've never had a dream about Pale Moon/UXP/this forum/etc but back in the day when I used to heavily use Seamonkey I did have a dream that Firefox was discontinued and Mozilla was focusing all of their efforts on Seamonkey. If only.
