Planned downtime 17 an 18 December

Post by Moonchild » 2025-12-05, 07:37

Our server provider has infomed us of 2 upcoming maintenance windows which will impact our services and websites.
First window starts 17th December at 08:30 UTC / 09:30 CET. Expected downtime approximately 2 hours.
Second window starts 18th December at 08:30 UTC / 09:30 CET. Expected downtime approximately 2 hours.

This will affect various sites and services. Notably the primary public DNS resolver and time services will not be interrupted.

Update for clarity.
The first window impacts automatic updates, dynamic user agent updates, the forum, the european download mirror and the test server.
The second window impacts captive portal detection, the main website and developer website, the secondary anonymous public DNS resolver, default start page redirect, and several other low priority informational pages (e.g. internal help from the browser UI)

Hopefully that's not related to them providers getting the utterly horrible CloudFlare disease - or anything worse than that, provided there could ever be anything worse.

No. I am pretty sure they will not inflict CF upon their clients' infra. That is entirely up to the clients.
Also maintenance is on physical nodes, so I'm guessing its just some very irregular storage maintenance or somesuch. SSDs do wear out after all. I'm not questioning them, as they know what they are doing (gremlins please don't make me eat my words), and any maintenance in the past has always been smooth and leading to smooth or even improved operation otherwise.

Does this include today, the 30th at 16:50 CET ?

Because trying to visit the https://repo.palemoon.org/MoonchildProd ... UXP/issues gets me this error:
Problem loading page

HTTP Error 502

While accessing another server, the server received an error, and was unable to return a response to you.

Please try again.
And while writing this post, it went back to normal.. typical.

A classic problem. As anyone browsing our support boards knows, both hidden variables and authentic chance can produce chaotic results.
Off-topic:
I have reason now to believe that the Cloudflare extension is not why Farlex works normally for me again, but that it is idle at present. I have got my own guesses to what is happening, but only time can tell.

While it was planned downtime for an upgrade of Gitea, those never last long and I do not announce them. Brief downtimes occur semi-regularly as I keep server software up-to-date and I do not strictly organize this, as we're not running high-availability services for free.
Obviously, it was unrelated to what was announced in this thread. I'll lock this one since it's over and done with.
