As one of the exclusive club of pycode (dark theme) users, this topic was of special interest to me. But on my first visit to the thread, by the time read and reached the 7th reply, not only was the topic locked, but the experimental ProSilver (Dark Edition) had vanished from the Board preferences.

I guess that's one disadvantage of being in a different time zone from the majority, things can happen, and an entire discussion can become obsolete (I think I used that word appropriately?) while asleep.

As I explained in that thread I need to do a lot more work on it to make it work. If I find the time for it i'll have another thread up (or maybe tack it on to this one) when I have something that reasonably works.

Instead of relying on the forum theme for a dark mode, best use a combination of AutoPageColor(link in my sig) and Swarth. Thus I get automatic dark mode between sunset and sunrise for all sites that I choose to enable Swarth on, including the forum.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as far as I can tell, the Pale Moon forum doesn't do any "asking" about preferred colour scheme. I installed AutoPageColor, experimented with various preferences, made sure I refreshed the forum page and the light forum theme didn't change.

About Swarth, I already had that installed, but the methods it uses are all ugly and hurt my eyes, so I rarely activate it. From my experience with Swarth and dark theme options or extensions with other browsers, aesthetically they never come close to a human designed colour swatch put together with care and a good eye.

I am eager to see what @Moonchild comes up for a new dark theme, and it may well become my new favourite, but I don't understand why pycode needs to be retired even if only one person uses it because I presume it costs nothing to keep an existing theme?

Note, in no way am I precious about the pycode look, and will not make a fuss, or draw attention to its absence when (or if) it is removed.

It doesn't, APC provides the automation of what preferred theme is advertised, and Swarth will auto switch themes if u enable the 'follow preferred color scheme' setting in its preferences.

My colour preferences are independent of the hour, so APC is not for me, and Swarth is a terrible substitute for a website with well-designed light/dark options. I find it difficult to understand how the below can be considered a "best" option, but maybe I just have very particular taste and discerning ideas of what is easy on the eyes, both day and night.

Who said it was? It's for sites that don't offer the feature, and can be disabled for specific sites that handle it better.

Because then your color preferences are under your control rather than depending on the site to offer a dark theme. And if you want to tweak the CSS separately, a Stylem user style will give you even more control.

There's NO risk of danger (no gremlins) in the CSS in the link I posted above. It's the CSS of a stylesheet uploaded to userstyles.org back in 2015. I've been using it since then. It's called "phpBB - Dark, blue, simple" by grom. It's a terrific dark theme for any phpBB based forum. More forums can be added to the CSS. Copy and paste the CSS into a new stylesheet using "stylem" or "stylus", name it, and, voila. I linked the CSS and not the userstyle itself because it's been a long time since userstyle.org worked properly for me (in Pale Moon). To go to the userstyle just remove ".css" from the end of the link. I meant no mischief, I was just trying to help with my 2 cents. All (most) of you being scholars of the codes, I thought would read the code in the link and see it was benign. I suppose I should of included a note with the link. Anyway, that's all I've got.
